Are these genuine??

I'm after one of these for me (a gift to myself with some inheritance)...

Genuine Sweetie bracelet

But have found these online...
They look too good to be true - anyone have any opinions?

Option 1

Option 2

Is there any reason why they might be genuine and so cheap?

I'm not bothered about 'replicas' in every day life, but as this is money left to me by my lovely Grandfather I would like to buy a special piece of jewellery to keep forever.

If you go to FAQs on both websites it says that they make "Links of London style silver jewellery".

So fakes.

A lot of the fakes from China are not even silver apparently, though these websites say they are so who knows.

boober · 19/07/2010 10:24

Don't touch these with a bargepole. They will almost certainly be fakes. I have had a quick look at the first link, and they ship for overseas (my guess - China).

Take a look at the FAQ's on the Links site:

I notice that there are a lot of websites selling Links of London jewellery, are these genuine?

There has been an upsurge in websites selling counterfeit Links of London items. We cannot guarantee the authenticity of a product purchased from any other site other than from www.linksoflondon.com or from official stockists which can be found at www.linksoflondon.com/store-locator. For further information on counterfeit goods visit www.linksoflondon.com/press/press-releases/press-release_455

I would go to a genuine store or stockist - you will know then that you have the real thing.

Thanks peeps.

I thought so - it seemed WAY too cheap, so I'll stick with the genuine website.

A friend got stuffed buying a Tiffany Silver Cuff on line. She bought it for £190 but the 'real' thing costs over £250. I am constantly amazed that people don't question why things are so cheap and just see 'bargain' and switch off brain. Most 'high end' shops don't DO sales.

bethjeff · 19/07/2010 17:32

to be fair though, the links bracelets aren't worth the price. Check their clearance outlets if you're that interested. I got 2 charms for £40 ( a gift not for me ) a month ago.
Its not like they'll ever appreciate in value so a solid silver replica would be just as good.

If you're looking for something special to remember him by and as an investment get something in gold or with diamonds or from a classic high end brand rather than a fashion brand.

newmomma · 20/07/2010 09:00

could you name some classic high end brands please? only have £250 so not sure that'll get me any diamonds or gold...

Tiffany do lots of gorgeous silver stuff for under £250 - for example a lovely silver bead bracelet for @ £150. Tiffany is a nice name to pass down through the generations.......

greygirl · 20/07/2010 13:41

second tiffany.
or a nice watch so you think of him every time you tell the time of day. (maybe a vintage watch for posh occasions? i have a gold rolex from the 40s which was a lot cheaper than a new one)

newmomma · 20/07/2010 13:48

oh, thanks.
I'll have a look at the tiffany website - i'd like a bracelet that i can hang two fingerprint charms off though...

wasn't sure if i had enough money for tiffany but i'll check it out.

a watch is a good idea - i've had vintage watches in the past and because i didn't spend much on them ended up with problems, but i might consider a new one as i don't wear a watch at the moment.

thanks

The thing is Tiffany is pretty ubiquitous IMO.

A vinatage watch is a nice idea.

Or something along the lines of personalized jewellery but more orginal than links or tiffany:

"These www.sarahhickey.com/Heirloom-Bespoke(1616422).htm" are nice.

Also I'd take a look on Etsy.com so much lovely jewellery on there, and you'll get more for your money if you buy American because of the exchange rate.

lorelilee · 20/07/2010 15:07

maybe in your world ms syrup......

MrsC2010 · 20/07/2010 19:29

Try Argent of London. Good value, loads of 'charms' if you want them and great quality. I've had one (the small rings as I have teeny wrists) for a few years and I love it.

bethjeff · 20/07/2010 22:49

If you are looking for a bracelet to hang charms from and you like the links of london style just get any sterling silver sweetie bracelet...the style existed waaay before links got in on it and so the only difference is the tiny links tag.
Vintage watches are always fun... visit some antiques fairs or pawn shops and try to bag a bargain. If the glass is broken or the strap missing remember that these are so easy to fix.
I picked up a gubbed 1970s rolex with a cracked face and no bracelet for £70...it's now worth £4500 after spending £100 for the refurb and its lovely.

Get something you'll love forever and you're onto a winner
