OK, how to surprise a friend?

I've found a lovely day spa in Manchester (a city we both adore) that will do a day pass to all the facilities for £12 each. My friend has been having a rotten time lately due to various things, so I'm thinking I'm going to surprise her by taking her up to this place.

If this was you, would you appreciate the gesture? And how can I surprise her with it?
I'll need to tell her to bring swimwear, so I'm thinking, when we pick the day to go up, I'll say something like "Oh, bring your swimwear, I've got a surprise for you". I don't know if it'll work, I may just have to tell her what we're going to, but not the name of the place.

I'm very tempted by their file and polish for £18 as well.

There's another reason for going as well. Another friend is a wheelchair user and I'm hoping to do a pamper day at this spa for my 21st with the 2 of them if the access is good. I did invite my friend but she's busy in the next week or so when we'd go, so I've said I'll check out the access.

Will also be a nice thing for me before I go to a 3 day music festival

For your perusal and approving nods or otherwise, this is where we'd be going.

Oh - that sounds really lovely. How good a friend is she? Can you pop in her room and find her cossie while she makes you a cup of tea or something? Or could you buy her a cossie (Asda have some lovely ones for about a tenner). Or could she wear one of yours?

As you can tell, I'd try and keep it a secret for as long as possible...

What a lovely surprise.

Could you ask her mum or sister to find her swimsuit for you?

All good ideas there Just to clarify, this first visit is for the day rather than staying over, if this place is nice we'll find a hotel nearby, and do a shopping day then a spa day for my birthday

oooh sounds fab! ALthough i would HATE the swimming idea.

Can you use the gym and the pool and sauna etc for £12? I live in Manchester (ish) and it actually sounds great!

You're a lovely friend - although if she's hairy like me she may appreciate half an hours warning on the day to prepare and shave her legs / bikini line etc

LollipopViolet · 18/07/2010 11:20

Yep, the £12 is basically all healthclub and spa facilities, then extra for treatments

I saw said friend last night, and things have worked out wonderfully. She knows we're going to a spa, she just doesn't know which spa This place is the fanciest place I've ever been to by the looks of the photos, and I'm not sure if she's ever been to any spa. So I'll still love the look on her face when she sees it

Just need to sort the date and we are off!

Saga, I think you have to wear swimwear in the spa bit even if you don't swim. I'm probably going to spend a whole lot of time in the whirlpool bit
