Help, last minute sassy floor length dress needed for Ball

Eek, and I am only 5'4, and hate the traditional 'ball gown' look, but this is a very formal do, where etiquette will not allow anything in my wardrobe.
So, where do I start?! Budget doesnt stretch to Coast/Monsoon and I would Love to find a bargain, but with a week to go I am not sure I will. I am blonde, 12, with med skin tone, but cant wear anything that will wash me out. If anyone could help I will send cyber-chocolate-cookies. Thanks x
