Prada bags?

DW has decided she's bored of Mulberry and wants a Prada Burgundy Shoulder bag (can't link to it because these companies invariably have shitty websites), which is £790. Any way to get them discounted, other than I suppose at Heathrow duty-free?

No in short.

Thats the beauty of brands/makes like Prada/Mulberry - they're pretty much always the same price.

SomeGuy · 13/07/2010 19:15

not sure I'd call it beautiful, but still....

Seems it's a little cheaper in Europe at the moment, £790 here, €890 there, which comes out at £740. Exchange rate fluctuations I guess.

Tell her her to get a another mulberry. The share value is going up and up. That company has arrived, now is not the time to jump ship! If she must get a prada I reckon she should go black. Burgundy is rather restrictive.

traceybath · 13/07/2010 20:43

Oh no - black handbags are dull - you never truly love a black bag

SomeGuy - yeap - definitely go to Italy - take your wife to Milan for a little shopping trip

Personally I'm all for gucci this autumn/winter.

HalfTermHero · 13/07/2010 20:51

Tracey, I agree. I am not a black bag person at all. But black is by far preferable to the mental hue that is burgundy and so needs must

HalfTermHero · 13/07/2010 20:54

Plus I should also mention that dp is in agreement with you re gucci. He tried to steer me away from mulberry and toward gucci counter in selfridges. He wanted me to mix up my bag collection, lol. I was having none of it!

traceybath · 13/07/2010 20:57

Oh no - I have 2 ancient guccis and am so loving the new stuff.

Your DH has very good taste

traceybath · 13/07/2010 21:00

HTH - you should come over the Avid & Wise thread - you'd fit right in

SomeGuy - you could also suggest a Hermes Birkin to your wife - no waiting list any more apparently

HalfTermHero · 13/07/2010 21:07

Am sure the Guccis are beautiful. Dp liked the new bamboo handle gucci but I am caught in a bad ( read expensive, lol) romance with Mulberry. Very kind of you to invite me over to wise and avid but I have bought 2 pairs of louboutins from net a porter this week and god only knows that I need no further encouragement, lol. I wish you and your avid pals well though!

Ronaldinhio · 13/07/2010 21:11

burgundy is a great colour for a bag
good for wearing with black navy cream grey etc

prada leather bags are divine and keep their value extraordinarily well
also mulberry can be a little bit arsehole iyswim

get her the prada

traceybath · 13/07/2010 21:12

2 pairs of louboutins

SomeGuy · 13/07/2010 21:17

i have to agree about mulberry, I rather like their style and the prices are significantly lower than a lot of the other brands....

anyway here's the bag in question img94.imageshack.us/img94/6639/baga.png

Tis pretty SomeGuy although personally I don't like how it is so obviously logo'd.

I have a mulberry somerset in a similar colour which I think is a little bit nicer.

SomeGuy · 13/07/2010 21:31

we were in HoF and she wanted to get a Mulberry Bayswater Clutch in red www.mulberry.com/#/storefront/c5485/4773/category/, but I said she should buy it in duty free when she flies off in 3 weeks, turns out she's going by ferry + train now, anyway I probably should have bought that then....

Maryqueenofchocs · 13/07/2010 21:46

someguy can you be my husband too, I think I already love you.

HalfTermHero · 13/07/2010 21:50

Oh I am not keen on that Prada, sorry. The colour leaves me cold. Bayswater clutch is a nice bag but I think personally that an alexa or an actual bayswater would be a better choice in terms of oozing classic style and beauty. I must also add that you sound like a thoroughly smashing husband, Someguy.

HalfTermHero · 13/07/2010 21:54

Yes, 2 pairs, Tracey! I am beyond excited and cannot wait for them to arrive. It was time for me to up the stakes, shoe wise. Thankfully, Dp's bank card has risen to the challenge, lol .

SomeGuy · 14/07/2010 00:19

she already has an oak Bayswater. Maybe she'd like a Mitzy Hobo. Problem is they are always changing the colours, and ebay is full of fakes.

Barbsieboo · 14/07/2010 08:04

The Mulberry clutch is more versatile and younger. The Prada looks classy but for an older lady and would really struggle to mix with casual clothes wheras the Mulberry could be dressed up or down in my humble opinion.

Ronaldinhio · 14/07/2010 08:56

have you looked here? for other ideas?

if she likes the prada go for it though

MarshaBrady · 14/07/2010 09:01

Hmm the Prada bag isn't really great, does your dw definitely want that one?

How about a peruse on Net-a-Porter?

HalfTermHero · 14/07/2010 09:36

Mitzy hobo is a great choice if you are after a top notch casual bag. I would not say that is is a 'smart' bag though and it does not have 'wow' factor in the same way as say a Mulberry Daria bag.

I have a mitzy and I love it. It is really reliable and great in the rain (it does not mark at all). All spills etc wipe off with no trace and it is hard to damage. It is a total grab bag that she will get tonnes of use from. You can take it anywhere, really. Imho, every woman should have at least one mitzy hobo or messenger .

Some of the Chloe bags are also beautiful (the Marcie and Paraty in particular). Perhaps consider that brand too?
