Lovely tummy-vanishing clothes ideas

I'm taking my mum shopping later. She needs cheering up, and her clothes are all old/knackered/faded. She lost a lot of weight a while ago but has put some back on and is now depressed again about her shape. Thing is she has a nice figure, pretty much a size 12 on the bottom, size 14 on top (weight on tummy plus big boobs).

I'm a stranger in these parts of MN, but I was hoping you could take pity and advise me on what sort of clothes I can pick out that would flatter her shape and make her look in the mirror and go "ooh!".

At the moment she is mostly in big black t-shirts/shirts and black trousers. She looks great in bright colours (red, orange, blue) but won't wear them as long as she feels she needs to "hide" her figure.

Dresses? Skirts? jackets? I just don't know where to start!

Thanks

Get her a decent bra, and dont buy anything loose/shapeless over the tummy area as it will just make her look bigger. Will she wear a small wedge heel? that always makes me walk tall and feel slimmer.

Definitely agree with the don't buy baggy, shapeless clothes. Slightly fitted (but not skin tight) things are more flattering.

Having said that I think these tops are great for disguising a tummy despite being on the looseish side. Great value too. I've got a couple myself and now they do them in a few more colours I think I might get some more.

If she's got big boobs then don't get double breasted jackets.

V neck or scoop neck tops are more flattering than crew necks.

Agree with Bunjies and Miche8.

Draping is your mum's friend for tummy hiding.

This dress would look lovely

If she's got good legs - then slim fitting jeans, bujies top and and cardigan

Nice necklaces and scarves also distract from tummy.

Thanks, you lot are great. We picked up a long cardigan, which looked really great. I also suggested the colourful/bright accessories/scarves/jewellery thing.

Will go through those suggestions with her later.

What is a crew neck?
