Struggling with switch to vaping any tips?

Hi,
As it says really, have been fighting a losing battle to ditch the fags for years now and failed with many different methods Blush I have never been keen to switch to vaping however I now feel it is the only realistic way I might stay off the fags.

Bought a vape kit couple of weeks ago - Smok Nord 2 and various flavours of liquid in 18mg and 12mg nicotine. I have to say I have got on somewhat better with the vape this time than previous attempts and have cut down from 20 cigs a day to about 4 - 5. I feel very much dependent on those remaining cigs though and can't imagine going without them. Although the vape does seem to help me get through the day and stay on top of lots of the cravings, it really does not ever hit the spot the way a real cig does, I have tried switching the liquid, adjusting the wattage, using different coils but nothing seems to make a difference.
Has anyone else found this and have any helpful tips?? I really want to be able to make the change and ditch the fags completely but at the moment I feel like it just won't ever be possible I really do not want to keep smoking fags. I know many people who have just never looked back once started vaping despite being long time smokers so I now worry that it just isnt for me and I will always crave a real cigarette. Please tell me it gets easier 😬

Hello, thank you all so much for the replies and support, lots of helpful tips here!
Well so far today I have only used the vape, not going to lie I am hankering for a cigarette and will smoke one later but trying to hold off as long as I can today. This is the best I have done so far though so quite pleased with myself today....small victories! 🤣

I have not tried the tobacco flavours and keep thinking perhaps it would feel more like smoking if I did, just when I bought the liquids I thought to myself might as well get nice flavours since they are available. I am finding the menthol more helpful as fruity and sweet ones seem to just get a bit sickly for me.

I am also using the 0.4 coil at the moment and prefer this one, although I am still learning about these and finding it all a bit confusing Confused I started it on 30w and have reduced it to 15 as was coughing my lungs up!

I will continue to skim through this trying peoples tips until I find what works best and will keep you posted over the next few days as to how I get on. It is lovely to have the support of people who have been there and done it and makes it feel more acheivable thanks so much!

Also @FossilisedFanny I burst out laughing when I seen your username, I absolutely love it! 🤣

@SinkGirl

I have been looking into the nicotine salts as think this may be more what I am after. I finf it all very confusing though, I seen they are not suitable for all devices so not sure how I tell if can use this in mine? Also do they just pour in as with the liquid or do they have to be mixed into something? Confused

You can buy it premixed or you can also buy just the nicotine salts liquid in a little bottle and add it to what they call short fills (so you pick the flavour you want, and you get 50ml in a bigger bottle so you can add the nicotine salts liquid to it).

Some coils work better with it than others - some vapes are set up for direct to lung vaping and they’re not really meant for those.

I generally order from Vape UK - they are really knowledgeable and can help you get the right coils for your tank if you need different ones but it might be okay with what you have, even if not ideal (usually it just means the coils stop working sooner).

Keep experimenting! VG /PG ratios and nicotine amounts will also have an effect on throat hit / craving satisfaction so keep reading. Agree to delay that first fag, and also steadily puff. It won't work if you go and vape for 5 minutes and not again for a couple of hours like cigarettes. Little and often is better.

I quit about 6 years ago with a basic ego style pen. I still vape now but with a totally different setup, basically no nicotine and much much less. Longest I've ever been, and I'll never go back. I did go back, when I stopped vaping, so that's that.

I started on RY4 liquids which are a caramel tobacco - more pleasant that just tobacco, less sickly, less smelly. I now blend a dry coconut!

One thing I will say is my first dental appt after quitting, about 6 months, the dentist actually asked me if I had stopped smoking, as he could tell from my gums. He said vaping is a thousand times better for gum and teeth health and 6 years later, I definitely agree!

Hello, Im not sure that anyone will still be following this but just in case they are wanted to let you know that I am now on my 5th completely cigarette free day! And I am so pleased about it too!

Followed SinkGirl advice re nic salts and it has worked like a charm! Do not want to speak too soon but for now I really have no desire to smoke any cigarettes and am thoroughly enjoying vaping- something I never thought would happen! Very much hope it will stay that way.

Really can't quite believe it and oddly I already feel so much better. Thanks so much to everyone who posted with advice and support.
And for anyone in future who comes across this post and is struggling to switch: Don't give up on it! You will get there, if I can do this I honestly believe that anyone can!

Thanks everyone! 😘

Well done! Top tip is to always have a backup device on you and eliquid, just in case you get caught short somewhere. Not that we can go very far at the moment.

Elfelina · 02/02/2021 21:24

Thanks guys and absolutely Frollocks I don't have a back up at the moment which is a big worry but looking to get that sorted over the weekend. Can see myself ending up with a few vapimg devices Grin

Love the Smok Nord 2 with the 0.4 coil. I’m 12 days in to my quit. Also really like the doozy tropical nic salt range.

I’ve got two Nord 2 devices. Ones got 0% vape juice which I puff as much as I like on and I’ve got another with 10mg nic salt which I use when I have a craving.

Elfelina · 15/05/2021 02:06

Well done on quitting!
I am still going strong with my vape, can't quite believe it Grin
I started out on 20mg nic salt and now on to 10mg - slow progress but just pleased to be off the fags tbh!
Will need to check out the doozy range have not heard of these before.
Good luck I hope it's as easy for you as it has been for me. Smile

This thread has been really useful! I’m 2 weeks into vaping and I’ve been struggling with how harsh my aspire vape is on my throat. I’m a mouth to lung vaper. I bought a logic compact intense pod from the supermarket and have been using nic salts and they are fab but it’s a really expensive way to vape as the refills are £5.99 for 2 tiny 2ml pods!!

I’ve been browsing on Vape Uk and like the look of the Smok 2 but also the Innokin Adept Zlide looked good. Has anyone tried it?

Whydoineedaname · 01/08/2023 06:26

I know this thread is a couple of years old, did you manage to stay off the cigs in the end op? Dying to go buy some but know I shouldn’t

Elfelina · 01/08/2023 13:03

Hi I have not posted since this thread. Pleased to say that yes I have managed to stay off the cigs, 2.5 years!

I am still vaping so I suppose I have just swapped one habit for another however I feel so much better now. I am using the lowest strength nic salts, spend a fraction of what I would have done on cigs each month. My clothes/hair do not smell of smoke, my skin and dental health have improved. When I get a cold virus now I no longer get the horrible harsh smokers cough. It has been absolutely worth it for me.

If you are making the switch please don't give up, experiment with different vapes / liquids. I still find the salts are best and I only use plain/menthol flavours as I find the fruit/sweet ones too sickly for me.
I did have a couple of wobbles in the beginning and would find myself craving a 'real' cigarette - I still do occasionally but I know that if I smoked one I wouldn't enjoy it. I have got used to the vape and it is enough to satisfy the cravings.
Hang in there, I never thought I could make the switch but somehow have managed.
