IBS and stopping smoking

Cards on the table, I really need to quit soon. However lifelong smoker and now in my 40s.

But, I have IBS. And having a fag is very tied up with toilet habits. Now my logical brain knows that non smokers also have IBS and manage etc but need to know I'll be able to manage my symptoms /get some sort of pattern going without the trusty post breakfast cig etc. Please assist...

A - just can't afford it any more
B - have boyfriend who is unaware of my filthy habit and I currently have a shower /wear a different coat etc every time we meet, it's too much pressure and I'm dying for a smoke once he leaves
C - I hate being a smoker really. Love the boost but it's so old fashioned in an unfashionably retro kind of way, I joined a load of colleagues outside recently and only two of us had a stinky fag, everyone else had vapes. I don't esp want to vape, too faffy but would be happy to try inhalator /lozenges /other old school NRP things except patches as I'm allergic to the adhesive

I've heard replacing it with a strong black coffee can assist matters.
I take mebeverine instead.

Mebeverine and other anti spasmodics do nothing for me, a strong coffee would see me stuck at home for a few hours on and off the loo. I suppose the smoking gives me a bit of control over the symptoms that I'm wary of losing, iykwim

I do yes, it's horrible when you've no idea if your guts will ruin your day. I dont drink coffee either for the same reason!
Would a vape do the same? If it would I'd probably move to that for now.

I think at the moment vaping just sounds too complicated to get my head round, it's a potential hobby I simply don't have time for Grin
I tried the old style e-cigs years ago, the ones that look like a fag and charge with USB, but the lack of throat burny feeling was very weird and I never went full time with them.

I think I just need to experiment really and get confidence that my digestive system will adjust and I can know whether or not I'll need to stay by the loos

I have IBS OP and gave up smoking 15 odd years ago - I know what you're saying.

Probably inadvisable to say (although it was recommended by a GP) but I have used cocodamol to control it for years - one a morning was enough when I could tell it was going to be a 'dodgy' day. I know IBS is different for everyone but might be worth thinking about.

I use loperamide quite freely which works well for me, I just adjust the dose as needed. When I had codeine after operations its the only time I've ever felt bunged up!
So without sounding like the poo troll (I'm not) I'm just not convinced I'll be able to poo when convenient and predictably without the cigs basically.
Logical brain knows it should work out but the IBS is a huge cause of anxiety in itself which then triggers more symptoms...
But I want to be able to go away for a weekend, not smoke, and not have stomach ache and unpredictable bowels really. Never mind the actual coping with cravings etc (am getting divorced at the moment and various stuff going on) but it's too expensive and too inconvenient to continue smoking.
