Hello, lovely ladies! I'm in desperate need for some advice.

Right, so I smoked for 20 years and been on 15-20 ciggs a day. Finally, decided to quit smoking and start vaping (health/wallet benefits), so two weeks ago I've started vaping.

It was amazing at first. I loved it from the first pull, was amazed and felt lucky that I didn't have any cravings for a cig AT ALL. Started with 18mg nic, but felt that it's a bit too strong, so reduced it to 12mg and that was fine. For a first few days, at least..

Now for more than a week I feel, frankly, absolutely shitty. I have dull weird headaches, I'm extremely tired and lazy, a bit dizzy, can't concentrate. Like now, I must be working (work for myself from home), but I just can't force myself.

Also I feel heavy and very bloated. I'm slim and I don't eat much, started eating even less since started vaping. Just don't have the appetite and no cravings for sweets, etc, so it can't be weight gain from food.

I'm not anxious/depressed or anything, but feeling very discouraged now. I actually love vaping and want this to work, but this 'feeling like shit' thing is difficult. I can be patient and wait for it to stop, but I would like to know how long it's going to last, approx?

Now I know my symptoms is a lot like those associated with nicotine withdrawal. BUT I do get nicotine from vaping? So how could this be?

Please please please someone, be kind and share your experiences with me, has anyone had similar? Will it get better? And (I know it's a stupid question, but still) - WHEN?

For the reference: I'm a MTL vaper, using Apollo OHM GO Vaping Kit (it's very good, I like it, no problems so far), also bought a tesla punk 85w with nautilus 2S, but this hasn't arrived yet. I like sweet/dessert liquids, got them from Rejuiced and Vape Wild, 12mg nic, some 50/50 VG/PG, some 70/30.

Thanks for your help :) ! And please excuse the poor grammar/mistakes, English is not my first language.

Vaping is not healthy.

I gave up smoking a long time ago with the help of Niquitin Minis, it wasn't difficult. I thought it would be as I had been smoking quite a lot for many years. After a while I no longer needed the Niquitins.

Not really much help but I switched 7 years ago and have never had any adverse reactions from vaping and never craved real tobacco since.
Only time I felt rotten trying to quit smoking was with champix, truly awful.
I imagine if you're using the 1ohm coil you should be good to go, maybe lack of nicotine is the issue and 12mg just doesn't cut it.
I used 18mg for years, was a 20 p/day smoker and it took until recently that I found it too harsh and reduced to 12mg.
Maybe a different eliquid at 18 would help, I have to change flavours frequently and find some to harsh no matter the nicotine content.
Keep at it, better than smoking that's for sure.

@Gort. Funnily enough Champix is the only thing that worked for me!

@ShadowOnTheSun. I would avoid vaping to be honest. Its not good for you at all. Better than smoking cigs granted, but its really not healthy. Over the years I have tried patches and gum etc. nothing worked. I vaped but it made me want to smoke more to the point i was vaping constantly. I used Champix years ago to stop and it worked so gave it another try and im 2 years no cigs now. I would definately recommend champix.

My husband went through the same when he quit smoking. I think it lasted a couple of weeks. I'm not sure I believe that there will be no harm from vaping but I don't think it can be any worse than smoking. I think it will pass.

Gort · 20/09/2019 13:19

I would avoid vaping to be honest. Its not good for you at all isn't particularly helpful for someone trying to quit smoking. If that's the only way for someone to get off tobacco then crack on. Vaping is part of stoptober, they won't have much success if people are advised not to bother.

@gort. I stand by what I said. Vaping is not good for you. I know many people who vape rather than smoke and several years later are still vaping. I stopped with champix and took 3 months of taking the drug. Every medical person who I’ve spoken too has said vamping is not good do you. Better than smokin but we don’t know the long term effects of inhaling vapour into your lungs.

YesQueen · 21/09/2019 02:00

Vaping is fine, as supported by public health England and cancer research
There have been plenty of studies done
I felt crap for a while after quitting, probably because of everything else that is in cigarettes. Keep going Smile

I am not trying to scare monger but people need to be aware that vaping is not a safe long term alternative to smoking. People who vape for a few months whilst trying to quit is one thing. People who vape for years as an alternative are another. Vaping is not as safe as people make out.

YesQueen · 21/09/2019 18:12

The second article is where people have been vaping THC/CBD in America from a contaminated source so not applicable, there's been many articles since regarding what they were vaping
The first article says that they are safer in terms of cancer risk. Let's not scaremonger people who are using e cigs to quit as the OP is
The stop smoking area has ALWAYS been a safe space for vapers and it's unfair to change that

SAHD2020 · 21/09/2019 18:29

Did you also read the part about COPD and chronic lung issues!? Just because something is less likely to give you cancer And is safer than cigs doesn’t mean it is safe. That’s all I’m saying.

Im an ex smoker and I tried many different methods of stopping smoking including vaping so I’m not coming at this from a ‘do gooder’ Angle. I have tried all this and every medical professional said vaping was not safe. Yes safer than cigs but not safe long term and we don’t know the long term effects of it. I’m not trying to scaremonger but people need an informed choice and part of that is knowing the alternative. I’m simply providing OP with my experience and the reality that vaping is not as ‘safe’ as people might be told.
