After smoking 20 a day for over 20 years I decided enough was enough so I started vaping. I’ve been vaping successfully now for nearly 2 years and haven’t had one cigarette in all that time.
I have always vaped 0.6mg liquid and for the first year or so I found it very easy.
However, in the last few months I seem to need to constantly vape to stop myself from reaching for a cigarette. It’s like the vape is not satisfying me anymore and I’m having to really fight the urge not to buy a packet of cigarettes, just to satisfy the craving.
On days when I don’t have to go to work I literally vape constantly all day and still don’t feel satisfied. I’ve started waking up in the night feeling the need to vape.
Someone suggested that I up the nicotine juice to a higher strength but tbh I don’t want to do that. I thought that the idea was to go down in strength and eventually give up altogether, not to go up?
I have a decent kit (I originally used a basic starter kit but I upgraded it to a larger battery and tank) and I always use decent liquid brought from a proper vape shop.
So why, after so long, do I feel the need to smoke again?
Has anyone had this and can offer any advice please as I really really don’t want to go back to smoking.

Is it since the new kit? If its not actually vaporising it as effectively then it might mean your not getting as much nicotine.

It is habit - I found my patterns changed when I moved to the vape, and while I probably have the same amount of nicotine over the day, I do tend to have little and often rather than longer gaps between large amounts.

No, I’ve had the new kit for nearly a year.
I just can’t work out why it’s not satisfying me anymore.
It’s like a bloody dummy in my mouth, I constantly vape (whenever I can) and when I’m not vaping (like at work) I’m constantly thinking about it. I take so many ‘toilet breaks’ just so I can go and have a quick puff.
I get so irritable when I’m not vaping but even when I am I don’t feel satisfied anymore.

I've been vaping for 4 years now. Usually on 3 or 6mg. But keep a tank full of 12mg for ''those days/times'' Better that than going back to the cigarettes.

The only thing that worked for me was giving up cold turkey. Horrendous but replacing with a vape just didn't work for me. Like you, vaping became a constant and I just wanted normal cigarettes more.

All the very best for the future.

Is it only since you've started a certain bottle of eliquid? You do realise they can't sell larger bottles by post with the nicotine in so stock short fills where you add nicotine afterwards. Could your current juice be one of these? The only time this has happened to me I had been sent 0% instead of 6% liquid.
My mum's been caught with a short fill that needed nicotine added afterwards, similar cravings until I worked out what had happened xx

It's no shame having a tank with a higher nicotine concentration in it for times when frequent vaping isn't possible as well.

Ecigs weren't designed to be a quit aid but as an alternative to combustibles, it's just turned out that a lot of people do manage to quit tobacco using them. Only took me 4 days to quit smoking using an ecig and I didn't mean to quit.
There is no right way to use them and no "plan" to reduce nicotine to 0. It's not the nicotine that kills you so I don't see why you don't want to increase the nic. As an ex 20 per day smoker 6mg really won't cut it.
I've been off the fags for nearly 6 years using 18mg nic and have no intention of dropping my nic or indeed stopping vaping - they keep me off cigarettes and that's the main thing for me having smoked for 32 years.

Thank you all for replying. I think I will buy some higher strength juice and see how I get on.

My granny is the same. She sits with it in her hand as it’s very thin and puffs on it every few mins. Her oxygen level is incredibley low because of it as she isn’t actually breathing in oxygen !

FlaminYon · 03/04/2018 19:23

Are you changing wicks often enough? Have you cleaned it? All the little nooks to make sure the air flow is at it's best?

When was the last time you changed your battery? I have 2 and one seems to have slowed down after about 8months and gives little satisfaction unless I puff it for longer (which burns the wick) or more puffs per time I'm using it.

FlaminYon · 03/04/2018 19:24

Can you adjust the watts and ohms?

PoptartPoptart · 03/04/2018 23:59

I change the coil and clean it religiously every week. Maybe it’s the battery losing power, I’ve had it for about a year.
The thing that I don’t understand is that it used to satisfy me, it’s only recently I feel the need to constantly vape and have started thinking about cigarettes.

I had dropped down to 6mg and it was doing the trick but the same thing has just happened to me. Well, nearly the same as I've just changed tanks and I've just discovered the most amazing flavour that I don't seem to be able to get enough of. I've mixed up a batch at 12mg and that's kicked the cravings.

I've no plans to stop vaping so it doesn't bother me if I vape 3mg or 18mg as long as I never smoke another cigarette
