I've started my own thread in Chat about smoking today and I really really want to stop. Have tried umpteen times and don't have the energy to try again.

Sorry don't know how to link on phone!

After reading some of the replies I'm considering starting to vape after being dead against it before.

I've read some of the threads in this topic about vaping but I'm really none the wiser!

Where the hell do I start?! I think there's a couple of vaping shops in my town, thinking I should have a look in there??

I've got the Joyetech Ego AIO (All in one), which I'm very happy with. I was a 20-40 a day smoker before I started vaping, my DP thought I'd never manage to give up. I went to stay at a hotel for work, and although I didn't smoke in the room, they refused to believe it because my clothes reeked of fag smoke.

I also had a horrendous cough first thing in the morning. It got so bad that it was a toss up which happened first: wetting myself or making myself sick. Vaping has stopped all that, and I'm now considering dropping the nicotine level of the e-juice I vape. Good luck, I don't regret switching to vaping, I wish I'd done it sooner.

Well done you shadow

How long have you been vaping?

For all you vapers is your intention to cut down the nicotine and then stop vaping completely?

How long have you all been vaping for and what is your nicotine intake at now (and the timeline) compared to when you started vaping?

I've been vaping for four years. Started at 18mg & now on 6mg. I have no intention of stopping, I enjoy it, realise that I am addicted to nicotine & am not too worried about the long term effects. (I am 60+ if that has any bearing).

But I do know lots of people who quit the vaping as well as the fags - most of them took about a year. And some people who only vape when they have Wine .

FurryDogMother · 14/11/2016 15:25

I will have been off cigs for 5 months next Monday, having smoked since I was about 14 (over 40 years ago). I went from 30 cigs a day to vaping 18mg juice, and am now down to 3mg, with no intention of stopping vaping. I'm just about to start mixing my own juice, and the low nic level means that it'll be very, very cheap for me, and I have enough nicotine to last about 4 years at my current rate of consumption :)

I really enjoy vaping - I love the flavours and the 'something to do with my hands' - and that's why I don't want to stop doing it. Nicotine isn't particularly harmful, by itself - no more than caffeine, anyway - so I can't see a reason to stop using it.

I did originally start vaping several years ago, but never really gave up smoking - I was dual fuelling and eventually went back to smoking. This time, the quit is 'sticking' if you like, and I'm not at all tempted to smoke again. The feeling of liberation is incredible - just wish everyone I know would make the leap :)

Well done FurryDog

I was totally against vaping, DH started & I continued to smoke for a year. I just could not get away with it, the all tasted vile to me. Eventually ran out of fags on Boxing Day & no nearby shops were open so resorted to his ecig with a menthol liquid & it was actually ok. Haven't had a cig since, we use the v2 cig ones & buy online. Good luck

All of these posts are making me feel Flowersvery happy.

sparklyshite · 16/11/2016 18:42

Bought an e-cig today! Went into my local shop and the guy was very helpful and not at all pushy trying to upsell me or anything.

Really enjoying it! Got a starter one for me and one for DH who has, surprisingly, taken to it very well as he was against them in the past.

Haven't had an actual cigarette since about midday and have really just been taking a couple of puffs on the e-cig as and when.

Really surprised I've not been interested in an actual fag since though.. Thought I'd be doing both just now?? Not complaining, love that I can still smell my shampoo from this morning!

Yay good for you! Once you get used to it you'll see how many benefits there ate to vaping. Cost, smell, health, convenience etc. Welcome to the wonderful world of vaping, so pleased for you! 😀

magimedi · 16/11/2016 19:52

Great news, Sparkly.

Keep us updated!

SleepingBooty · 16/11/2016 19:59

Yay, go you. What flavour liquid did you go for?

sparklyshite · 16/11/2016 20:10

Thanks guys Flowers

Well we got 10 liquids as part of our deal so we got a variety. I'm currently on ice cocktail - blueberry, mint and lime. Very nice!

Have noticed already my mouth doesn't taste awful like usual!

As the wise Polter says do expect some side effects - vaping may well leave you with a dry mouth so do try to drink more - water not Wine - it will help with the dry mouth & getting rid of the toxins from smoking.

sparklyshite · 17/11/2016 07:08

I have a REALLY dry mouth this morning magi! Will drink lots of water.

Thanks Polter and well done you! I never even thought about any side effects.. I've just made the switch but never really thought any further ahead than starting to vape! I didn't actually expect to stop smoking right away when I got an e-cig. I just really haven't fancied a fag.

Will have a look at a stop smoking timeline, thanks!

Just wondered how you were getting on sparkly?

I started vaping on 1st Jan. Had bought the kit about a month before but hadn't been arsed to put it all together, it seemed so complicated! With help from these guys here on the thread and a very nice helpline person, I'm really enjoying it! More importantly, I haven't had a real cig since about day 5 and love the flavours I've been trying.

Again, these threads recommended the onepoundeliquid site, so I'm currently enjoying Heizen, Blueberry but Black Ice is definitely the best so far. Funny, as I never liked menthol cigs, but love the menthol "kick" with these flavours.

My OH has made some annoying comments about the safety of vaping (like some people on other vaping MN threads!) but he's still puffing away on normal cigs, having to go out in the cold and coughing, so who's he stupid one? Grin

Thank you to everyone who gave me useful advice and confidence - as someone who tried giving up multiple times but found the unbearable rage and depression too much to handle, I can't believe how easy this has been. It's not giving up the nicotine but it's pretty bloody good.

The first step is knowing your habit. PuffStats helps you understand it

sparklyshite · 05/04/2025 08:25

I was flicking through the "I'm on" section and this zombie thread of mine from 8.5 years ago popped up. I've changed names many times since but the app says I'm posting as my original username. Is anyone else still around from back then?

I ended up being a hardcore vaper for around 7.5 years. I finally stopped around a year ago. It had taken over my life and something had to give. Unfortunately I'm now about 2 stone heavier but at least I don't have my vape permanently attached to my mouth.

It made the switch from cigarettes very easy. And it was a godsend for a long time. But then it became a crutch, a nuisance, and a very bad habit. I started having coughing fits that would often wake me in the middle of the night. Luckily that's gone now.

It's amusing to read this back. But also a little horrifying when I see in black and white how long I was hooked on it.
