Anyone quit with Champix?

I've quit and started again so many times over the years and this time I'm determined to crack it for good.

I tried gum, patches, etc but they didn't help. I've tried vaping but just didn't get on with it so my Dr has prescribed Champix.

Tomorrow is my stop smoking day, (day 8) but to be honest I don't feel any different to all the times I've felt when I've tried to quit before

I still want a cigarette, still enjoy it

The pill makes me feel quite sick on and off, and I've had some epic dreams, but I feel a bit nervous and not quite ready to stop yet.

It says on the box pick a day between day 8 - 14 so am I being a bit ambitious with day 8?

Any experiences please?

Thanks!

Morning. How is everyone going? I'm on day 27 and have to admit I'm smoking the odd cigarette. More out of habit than anything. Pretty disappointed in myself and have decided and feel ready to fully stop tomorrow. I will be starting my continuation pack on Thursday and am not going to smoke on that. I'm not enjoying the ones I do smoke. Still having nausea with the tablets. I find the evening one worse though.

My dh got quite depressed and uncharacteristically volatile on them. No prior mh issues. Be careful.

Five years on, he still can't smoke a cigarette because it makes him sick
No idea how the effects last do long.

I smoked loads at the weekend ( with wine) and enjoyed them. I did skip the Champix the next day but didn't want to smoke ( nauseous hungover). Oh yes I also discovered that Champix can "exacerbate" the effects of alcohol, which is true.

Although my ecig tastes horrible now, it's not quite breaking the mental habit yet. I see that if you don't have a quit date in the first 14 days you have do it in the first five weeks. I really hope this works but for me, some mental willpower is still required.

My husband also reacted really badly on them. Mood swings etc. Had to come off them after a few weeks. It really was quite a scary time watching him!

No mood swings here. Thank god. Have been asking others if they have noticed a change in that regard. It's the nausea and vivid dreams for me. I haven't had any alcohol since I started. Going to a gig Friday night do I will have a few drinks. Thanks for the tip that it may make you a bit drunker.

How is it all going?

I've given up the champix. My GP kept messing about changing my appointments so I ran out of pills. 2 and a half weeks without the tablets and it's going OK

Every now and then I really want a cigarette, but so far so good.

I'm now at that stage where if it's not nailed down, I'll eat it so have had to ban chocolate from the house and started cycling to work.

I'm on week 3 and haven't chosen a stop date. I'm only on an ecig now and I've noticed I'm less interested in it and I'm using it much less. It feels like a natural change. I'm having some very peculiar dreams though!

hownowpowpow · 28/07/2016 12:49

Hope everyone is getting in better than I am. I stuck with the champix for six weeks but was still smoking. So I threw the towel in on that front.

I had hypnotherapy last night and I know it's very early days but I haven't smoked or wanted to smoke since. The session lasted 2hrs 40mins and I was super relaxed after it. I have to listen to a personalised cd every night for the next 8 weeks.

How is everyone else doing?

I'm a non smoker now - I've had a couple of puffs since I posted in May above, but they tasted vile and I no longer have any desire to have one.
I realised the desire had gone about a month ago, and can't tell you how wonderful it feels to be free of the slavery to it.
Champix isn't for everyone - DH vommed badly on it (within 10 mins of swallowing each pill, so pointless taking it) as did niece. Worked for me though (rather miss the dreams - they were EPIC!!)
