Time to quit

Hi all, I've been vaping now for eight weeks. I was smoking up to seven roll ups a day. I've managed to stop smoking during the day, but I'm still smoking two or three at night. It's frustrating because I really want to quit altogether, and I'm happy vaping but something (fear?) stops me from taking the final step. So I've marked tomorrow as throw out baccy and quit day, we have a visitor over the weekend who I'd rather not smoke in front of so thought this would be a good catalyst.
Any suggestions for motivation would be helpful.

Vaping is just another way to get nicotine into you. You're addicted to it. Try downloading the Alan Carr easy way method audio book and listen to that. Helped me ditch a 40 a day addiction. Good luck!

magimedi · 28/08/2015 13:56

You possibly need to up the nicotine level of your juice for a bit?

Don't worry about 'dual fuelling' - many of us on here had a couple of cigs a day, as well as vaping, for many months. Think of all the cigs you haven't smoked.

What magi and Polter said Smile Also, switching flavours can be helpful if you're finding it a bit tough.

DH took a year to lose the last fag of the day. It had become a point of principle by the end. He hasn't smoked now for nearly a year and never misses it - just because it takes you a while to switch completely, doesn't mean you'll be more prone to slipping once you get there.

Good luck!

Thanks everyone. Well I did my first full day. Threw my roll up kit out on Friday night. By around eight last night I started to crave, but I pushed through, vaped loads and managed. Very pleased.
Yes Panty I have tried hypnotherapy (quit for eight years), patches, gum, Alan Carr. None of these have worked. Thanks for the suggestion though.
I have aspergers so I think smoking has become a stim for me, and when I recently attempted a quit without vaping I was in a terrible state for each of the four days I managed. Vaping has made it more possible as it fulfills the same stim need and I'm just dealing with the detox aspect of quitting. So I'm happy to do it this way.
I'll be taking this one day at a time. Here goes day two.

Well done!

One day at a time is the way to go.

Drink plenty of water. Vaping can give you a bit of a dry mouth & the water will help with the detox aspect.

PurpleElla · 31/08/2015 08:38

Hooray, day two done. So I haven't smoked for over 48 hours. Very pleased.

Hi everyone, thought I'd post an update to help keep myself motivated. So I've had a couple of slips, one on Thursday night and one on Saturday afternoon. So two cigs in a week, which isn't bad but I'm still a bit peed at myself for caving.

Still onwards, this will be the week I manage to quit altogether, specially since I'm sick of changing my count to day one on my quit smoking app.

Thanks for the encouragement everyone.

Fantastic Flowers

Gohackyourself · 10/09/2015 19:56

Hi ya,
( was Brown sofa but the hacker got me)
Just wanted to add my two pence-
Well done on getting through it- I had to duel nearly 3 months but kept going thanks to the main posters above and their advice.
It also helped to go get myself "fully kitted up" with an I stick and nautilus set up(again due to reading the advice).
I was on basic kit, then vision spinner and still couldn't crack it! Then got this set up with some juice experimentation and I just passed the 3 month mark! With not one slip even on nights out etc.i would just vape outside with the smokers, soon enough I realised that they all stank awful and most were very jealous id cracked it after 25 yrs of 20 a day:-)
I've found it easy vaping-
I have tried patches/gum/Hypnotherepy too to no avail.

I also have a way of thinking about it too-
I will always be a smoker, I just choose not to do it, but like if your an alcoholic but kick it. It's so easy to fall back onto it if you let yourself.its a mental edge on your own self you need to fight! But once you get through a week and that leads to a month, you don't want to break the run!
I hanker for a real cig about once a day now, but as soon as I vape its gone.

Good luck lovely ! X

PurpleElla · 11/09/2015 19:28

Hi, thanks for the support everyone.

Gohackyourself - yes I agree, I quit for eight years and can't believe I fell off the wagon this time. Will be much more careful if I crack it this time.

I've had two cigs this week. Which annoys me cos I feel pretty weak. However onwards, the friend I usually smoke with (who I had all my cigs with over the last few weeks) is away for nine days so hopefully this will push me into enough of a quit to not want to break it when she gets back.

I'm currently using an aspire CF Gpower battery with K1 glassomiser. Do you guys think changing to something more powerful will help with the quit? Was considering an istick as they seem pretty popular.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 11/09/2015 20:52

Count up all the fags you haven't smoked, don't focus on the two you have!

You might find a variable battery helpful when you want to upgrade, isticks are good. You're doing very well though, it's only been a couple of months and you're nearly there! Star

Gohack / brownsofa glad things are going well for you too!

PurpleElla · 12/09/2015 20:57

Thanks, well I bit the bullet and bought an istick30 today and it's improved the experience massively, I love it. No desire to smoke at all.

I need help also, to help my partner to quit! He has been smoking a good few years now and did quit on an electronic cigarette for about 6 months but with people smoking around him he ended up smoking again, he refuses to see a docor but I'm really worried about him as his lungs sound awful and his breathing at night is beyond a joke, he cannot breathe through his nose anyway and his lungs just sound terrible, what would persuade him to stop or at least see a doc?
