Very hard but you can do it. Have you tried Allen Carr?

Allergictoironing · 23/04/2015 21:47

It took me AGES to stop dual fuelling - but I've finally been fag free for over 14 months now Smile.

Most important thing is count the ones you haven't smoked rather than those you have. Then you may find playing tricks on yourself helps...
Try keeping the fags in a room you rarely go into usually, so it takes an awful lot more effort to get them whereas your spinner is always next to you. Keep any extra cash you save in a jar and count it as it adds up. Find something that keeps you occupied, either mind or hands (e.g. reading, knitting, crafts). Whenever you feel you really want a fag, tell yourself to just wait another half hour then start doing something absorbing - that half hour may end up stretching to a full hour or more. Be very strict with yourself when you're allowed to smoke e.g. only after meals, or never on the telephone etc.

These were all things that helped me, especially using distraction techniques and keeping the e-cig handy & the fags well away from me.

And good luck!

Am just getting so annoyed at myself and the ability (it seems) of everyone else to just crack it:-( an the more annoyed the more fags :-( :-(

As I said, took me literally months (around 6-7 months from seriously trying vaping to losing that final last stinky). I think my problem was deep down inside I didn't really want to stop smoking, I just had to due to health & cost.

Try not to get too frustrated. I know plenty of people who have been vaping since before I started and still haven't managed to lose the last half dozen or so, but they are already feeling the health and financial difference so every fag you replace with vaping is a "win".

magimedi · 23/04/2015 22:44

Allergic is wise. Keep on with the vaping & follow her advice.

Could you change your brand of fags to something you like less? Might that help?

If you are going away anywhere over night just take your vaping kit?

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 24/04/2015 11:16

What strength liquid are you using? Have you tried going up a strength?

Do any of you have i leaf? Is it the mini or normal- would you reccommend over the spinners?

Hi Brown, I was the same as you and duelled for around 2 years. I found that once I changed my normal ce4 to my istick and Nautilus Mini the flavour was so nice and a lot stronger that I began vaping a lot more than smoking. On the 30 Dec I thought I would give just vaping a shot for a few days and see what happened - I even kept fags available just incase. But I still haven't had one since that night and too be honest I haven't had many cravings either.

I have a really helpful app on my phone too called smoke free beta it tracks hours mins and seconds since you quit. It has a health line with bars to show you how each day is changing your health and tons of other bits on it. As of this minute it's telling me that I haven't smoked 2888.31 fags since the day I quite and I have so far saved £909.82 since December the 30th 14

Just keep at it and you will get there :)

to be*

screweduppotatoe · 25/04/2015 09:52

It was the Ileaf Istick that did it for me definitly

Allergic has good advice!

I wanted to attempt 'dual fuelling' and it didn't work at all for me. i.e. I just didn't bother picking up the ecig at all, and stayed fully on the fags. I kept thinking: 'next time I want one, I'll use the ecig instead', but I kept picking up my cigs instead.

Once I'd decided to make the switch (which was months, if not a year later), I realised that- for me- it had to be a clean break. But to make it easier, I used a nicotine patch on top of vaping for the first 4-5 days. I can't say whether or not it's completely safe to do this, as obviously I was getting a LOT of nicotine those first few days (and I was wired!). But it was the only way I could do it.

And even then, it was still a bit hard- because I was breaking all the habits and rituals around rolling my own fags and standing outside etc.
But it was much, much, much easier than any of my previous attempts to stop smoking.

Obviously, this might not seem relevant to you, because you already ARE dual fuelling. But I just thought I'd mention using a nicotine patch alongside the vaping, in case you think it could help you. (But with a BIG disclaimer to think carefully about it because nicotine poisoning is always a possibility! Although as I understand it, it would be usual to feel sick/dizzy/get a headache before anything more serious happened).

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 28/04/2015 21:48

Yes it's fine to use a patch as well. If you have too much nicotine you'll just feel a bit sick or headachy and put the ecig down.

Fun reading here Smile
