Right, no fags left and not going to the shops. I've been meaning to do this, give it a proper go, for ages but just kept putting it off.

It's going to be aweful but needs to be done. Anyone want to join me?

Good luck rb32! I won't lie & suggest it will be other than hard, but it really will be worth it.

Tips that may help:
Find something to do with your hands - half the battle is overcoming the habit & hand to mouth action.
For every packet of fags you don't buy, put the cash aside in a jar or something so you can watch it mount up every day. Then plan what you will spend it on, ideally something indulgent Wink.
Keep posting on here, and reading other's threads for support & knowing you aren't alone
If you feel the urge to snack instead, try fruit. Not only does it give you much more of a "full up" feeling for the calorific intake, but many fruit flavours can help suppress appetite & prevent putting on loads of weight. If you make a ritual out of it e.g. cutting an apple into loads of equal pieces & eating them slowly, that also helps you with having your hands occupied.
Try to keep as busy as you can

Ta allergic! Not so much the hand to mouth action for me I don't think. For me it's ciggy breaks at work. Having a couple before work after I've dropped my daughter off at school and when out and about for work. Hmmmmm....I see a pattern emerging! Not much I can do about that one though.

Will have a pack of apples and some bannanas to try and get through the days at the desk and not slipping out for ciggy breaks.

Onwards and upwards!!

Good luck rb32, I'm trying to quit again, I know it can be done because I quit whilst pregnant with dd! What really helped me was meeting once a week with a health care advisor in boots, she's a really lovely lady and whenever I see her in boots she comes to serve me and coo over my dd, I'm trying to pluck up the courage to tell her that I've started smoking again and that I need her help. First thing I'm going to do though is get myself some quickmist spray to have instead of my morning cigarette because I think that if I don't have that first cigarette then the rest should all fall in to place too Wink

Day two.....come one! Avoiding all temptation, lots of cups of tea and my lunch consists of the following:

1 Packet of Crisps
1/3 large pork pie
1 chicken and stuffing sandwich (thick)
2 apples

Should help distract from the cravings.....which aint too aweful. Biggest thing was managing to go past the shops this morning without stopping.

BedPig - If I ever went to boots, I'd find a lady to talk to Grin . I had a quickmist thing once, really does work and I cut down a lot. Mostly used it as you intend to, first thing in the morning to replace that morning smoke. Going CT now as I want to kick the nicotine habit all together as I'm sick and tired of the need for it!

Just coming back to this thread now because I'm on day 1 again! Doh! Been up since 6 and I'm feeling okay, I think I'll struggle to stop myself popping out when dd goes for a nap after lunch though so I'll have to get stuck in to some wotsits I think Wink I'm also going cold turkey at the minute, but I may pop to get a quick mist thing later on although I just remembered that last time I quit I ate an awful lot of polos which probably helped a lot.

I hope you're still doing well rb32 Flowers and well done for getting so far!

rb32 · 20/10/2014 09:43

Hi bedpig, yes still here and still quit though it's pretty tough now. Good luck with today, you've done it before so you can do it again. You know how worth it it is!

Well done rb32! I'm sure I've heard that the first two weeks are the worst but once you've done a fortnight you should have cracked it, I think it was about a week for me last time until I felt a lot better about quitting Smile
Thanks for the encouragement, I've just peeled a tangerine for dd which smelt delicious so just had one too and it seemed to help a bit.

rb32 · 20/10/2014 11:11

this has been helping me whyquit.com/joel/ntap.pdf it's pretty good at keeping you going. I can't wait until christmas. I think if I get that far I'll have cracked it!!

You'll definitely have cracked it by then! Thanks for the link, I'll have a look while dd naps Smile
