Hi all,
Following the links suggested to purchase a "evod starter kit"..... Which liquids do I buy for it please? Are they under VIP liquid, silver label?? Am confused which section I need for that tank.
Also a few friends have the big chunky vape kits, am lost on which one is best for beginner??!!

you can buy any liquid, do you know what strength you need?
You can use any sort of liquid in any tank :)

i would just buy a few smaller bottles to get you started, try and figure out what you like.

I never thought i'd like dessert flavours but thats all i use!

Also, look at smoke rainbow, you can get lots of small samples, i recommend anything from Triphammer :)

Allergictoironing · 26/07/2014 22:40

As ineed says, any liquid should be fine in any tank - there are a few out there that can damage plastic tanks so are recommended to be used in glass ones only, but these normally have a warning about that by the seller.

The important thing is getting the strength right. Remember that because the nicotine is absorbed differently and at different rates depending on the delivery method you can't directly equate the levels in cigs to that in e-liquid or patches. In general it is recommended that a 20 a day smoker should start out trying 18mg strength liquid.

When it comes to kit, what's best for you is whatever you feel most comfortable with! I have a big chunky 1300mAh battery with an appropriately sized tank & have been vaping about 9 months (though some of that was dual fuelling). Whereas my friend uses a cigalike sized battery with a special smaller tank to fit the 808 fitting, and she's been vaping over 5 years now. Some people like a subtle look like plain black or stainless, whereas others prefer bright shiny kit the blingy-er the better Grin

Blakey3166 · 27/07/2014 05:32

Thanks to you both.
So your saying that on the evod site, any liquids in any section will be fine for that type of vapour unit? I have been vaping with a normal unit which is similar to those shown but I tend to find they have a short shelf life. 2-3 weeks.
Can any of you suggest a site for me to have a look at the bigger ones? I'm thinking have the larger vape unit at home and evod type for out and about.

I have a vision spinner in rainbow
myepack.co.uk/review/product/list/id/779/category/21/
And mvp2 in purple
myepack.co.uk/mods/itaste-mvp-shine-kit.html

That's all I know about batteries I'm afraid!
The spinner is my take out, everyday battery and the mvp2 usually stays at home. It had a really good battery life and 510 threading which I think means it fits most tanks, certainly the cheap Gs-h2s from eBay and the protanks I have.

For good juices try

Morning Blakey. Basically any liquid should be fine with any tank unit, you just need to top it up as & when it runs out.

The majority of e-cigs available fall into 2 categories, cigalikes and tank/battery systems, and the vast majority of tank/battery systems use a screw fitting known as 510 aka eGo style fitting. The smallest tanks I've seen available for eGo style fitting is about 1.4ml, and the largest around 3ml - but this just means a bit longer between topping up with liquid.

The life of the tank unit varies greatly depending on a number of factors. The 2 main reasons for a tank to "die" are a) the coil burns out or b) the wick gets a bit gunked up & you get a burned taste when you vape. It can also be affected by the resistance of the coil & what voltage you put through it, but if you aren't using a variable voltage battery that doesn't really affect you (I'm sure Plenty will come on with more detail if you ask). A coil will last typically anything between a couple of weeks to a couple of months.

The EVOD tanks that come with that kit have removable coils, so when the coil burns out you can replace just that part rather than the whole tank. I use cheapo GS-H2 tanks (also bottom coil/removable coil) as I have a tendency to dropping my e-cig and cracking the tank part Shock!

The 650mAh batteries that come with the EVOD starter kit should last a typical ex-20 a day smoker around a day before needing charging - as a 30 a day smoker I've ended up with about 24 hours of use from my 900mAh battery & a good day & a half or more from the 1300mAh batteries between charges. I mainly use a Vision Spinner or Ego c-twist (variable voltage) battery - you can get the Vision Spinners in 1300mAh or even 1650mAh from myepack, and an EVOD twist (same sort of thing) in 1000mAh

ineedausername · 27/07/2014 07:44

And yes, any type of liquid from anywhere can go in any tank :)
As allergic says, some (very few) juices come with a warning that they might crack a plastic tank but I've tried a few and that's never happened.
Also look on www.fasttech.com/category/1411/electronic-cigarettes
They sell everything quite a bit cheaper. I buy all my coils and tanks here. Be careful though as there are Authentic items and 'in the style of' items which are obviously good copies! Takes about 4 weeks to arrive though!

Allergictoironing · 27/07/2014 07:45

(waves at ineed) x-posting , sorry!

ineedausername · 27/07/2014 08:32

Morning allergic waves
I bought a Gs-h5, holds 3ml and is massive! Suits my chunky mvp2 :)

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 27/07/2014 09:52

The evod starter kit is an excellent choice for beginners and I agree with the others, if you want something big it's hard to beat the MVP.

MyEpack (linked to above) is a great site for kit - they carry a big range at very good prices and you get your stuff fast. Have a look through their clearomiser section and buy two or three different sorts. Choice of clearo is a very individual thing and there's something new out every week or so!

I get most of my juice from Premier ecigs. Hangsen juice is like the Tesco of eliquids - nothing 'gourmet' but good enough, consistent and reasonably priced. Premier carry a huge range of flavours for £2/10ml.

I have a couple of GS-H5's but I find they go gurgly very easily. I also have a GS-H5C which has a different shaped bottom and I get much better results from it. It could be an airflow thing. I have only ever seen that model on FT.

Bah, I never bother steeping them ;)

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 27/07/2014 17:50

Lots are fine without steeping. Others it makes a big difference. I just got a load from Big Juice and I am really hoping they will improve in a week or so - not much flavour at all at the moment Sad

I think we're all experienced in the stuff we use, polter, and not in the stuff we don't use. That's why every question about which kit or juice to get ends up with a bajillion different answers Grin

The important thing is to just get something and make a start. It probably won't be the best thing ever and even if it is there'll be something better next week or next month. I dithered around for 18 months before I started vaping because I couldn't decide what to get. That's 8213 fags I could have not smoked, if I'd just made a decision Shock

Those naturevape coils do seem to be the next big thing though. I have 2 questions about them:

  1. Do you have to dry burn them often? It was my shitness at dry burning that led to me learning to re-coil. Whenever I have tried dry burning I have been left with a nasty taste I can't get rid of.

  2. They are quite low ohms aren't they? Do they significantly shorten battery life?

Should I just watch Todd's video? Grin

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 27/07/2014 21:17

If I was starting again, I would just buy my MVP from the start, and an Aspire tank.

My favourite liquids are from cloud house vapour, try things you don't think you'll like too, my favourite is vanilla custard, thought I would hate it too!

Allergictoironing · 27/07/2014 21:17

I would urge caution here. Much as I absolutely adore my rainbow Vision Spinner, I waited until I was completely sure that I got on with vaping before spending chunks of money on shiny gear. I do know at least one person who just didn't get on with vaping at all & is back to 100% rollies after just a couple of months, and has probably spent more on her gear than she saved from the small amount of tobacco she didn't use in that time Sad.

More important to get sufficient reasonably decent kit, then splash the cash on super duper stuff after some savings have been made from not smoking. The EVOD starter kit contains everything needed to get started including a second battery (for when the first is charging), spare coils etc, for just £9 less than one single rainbow Vision Spinner would cost without any tank, charger etc.

Blakey3166 · 27/07/2014 21:23

My head hurts!
Evod starter kit... Do they come with hygiene caps and chargers?!

OP posts:
Blakey3166 · 27/07/2014 21:24

And does no one buy their liquid from same site?

OP posts:
PlentyOfPubeGardens · 27/07/2014 21:24

burn off any residue on the coil This bit is dry burning Smile

You're right, CE4's are shit. They were good enough to keep me off fags for my first 3 or 4 weeks though until I found something better (and are way better than anything that was around when I started looking all that time ago). Meanwhile DBiL managed his first 9 months just refilling cig-alike cartridges. He's since graduated to an ego and evod but is still very suspicious of the big kit.

Beginners will tend to not have very good kit, because they don't know what to buy and because it's a risk to spend a lot of money when you don't know if vaping will work for you. I am always happy to help someone make the leaky, burny kit they have in front of them work right now as well as recommending something better because those 2 or 3 days while they are waiting for their new kit might mean a complete relapse. Most people, if they're lucky enough to bypass the cig-alike stage, will still end up starting with an ego and a CE4 because they are so ubiquitous.

I think I'll get a naturevape (when the site is back up). I want to learn how to do microcoils so it makes sense to get one so I can see how they work.

Odd thought: I never used to chase the perfect smoke - never ended up on extremely expensive cigars or gourmet pipe tobacco - just settled on one brand of rolling tobacco and stuck with it for decades. Why do I now have a 4 drawer unit full of kit and juice and still want to try the next new thing? Confused

ineedausername · 27/07/2014 21:27

I agree with Allergic, definitely buy a basic kit with everything you need and 2 or 3 different liquids.
See how you get on, then start buying the new gear :)
