hypnotism

Hello

newbie here. I've just had my third cig of the day. Total failure.

I'm just thinking of my options and although I'll probably opt for vaping (once I get my head around it all) I really would love to be completely free of nicotine

Has anyone tried hypnotism, or know anyone who has, and did it work? Is it expensive? Do you need more than one session?

Thank in advance for any replies x

Hi Charlie. Firstly, I dual fuelled for MONTHS before my last ever cigarette. If you'd only had 3 cigs by 7:30pm then there's no way I would call that a failure - count the ones you haven't smoked rather than those you have!

I tried hypnotism many years ago, and I'm afraid it did nothing for me at all. You have to really genuinely want to give up, inside and out, consciously and sub-consciously, for that to work; and at that time deep down inside I didn't really want to, I just thought I did.

I had it 8 years ago, one session cost £90 and I haven't had a single cigarette since.

Me too, I had a joint session with DH 9 years ago and never touched one since. DH was smoking again after 7 months although he has stopped now after medication from the doctors, fingers crossed. I suppose its a bit of how much you really want to stop, I really wanted to whereas I suggested to DH that we should go, he would of happily stayed smoking and I think that showed in the results. however he looks 10 years older than he is and I do put this down to the fags so for this reason alone it's worth doing

Well done Rioja and kinky and good luck to mr kinky Flowers

Have you tried Allen Carr's book charlie? Lots of people manage to quit using that.

Thanks for replying! It's really good to hear of success stories. I'd really love to try it. But I have to agree with allergic. You really have to want it. I can't say that I do at this stage. The thought of not smoking fills me with dread.

I did read Alan Carr when I was pregnant and it really helped. I stopped for the whole pregnancy and for a few months after. But really that was because I didn't want to harm the baby. I couldn't wait until I could have my next cig. I knew it wasn't forever and that's how I managed it.

Lots of people use vaping to slowly cut down the nicotine and give it up entirely. You can get two different strength liquids and mix them to cut down a mg at a time, right down to zero.

Will defo try the vaping.

I wonder if anyone tried hypnotism with a cynical mind, and it worked? Or do you have to believe it will work, for it to work? Am I making any sense all?

I used a Paul mckenna self hypnosis cd along with the Allen Carr book and have been quit 2 years.
I started again 3 days after stopping with the book and got the Paul mckenna cd from the library out of desperation. I didn't believe at the time it could work but I think it (or a combination of the two) did.
I was a committed smoker and didn't even want to stop before reading Allen Carr (was forced on me by dh) so I don't think you have to want to stop. sometimes you just have a light bulb moment.

Thank you Mrs! This gives me a lot of hope. I didn't consider self hypnotism. How does it work? Do you listen to it before bed? Or your journey to work? Is it long?

today I have been vaping. I did have one cig at midday. This is a huge improvement for me although I'm still upset with myself for giving in that once. It's so hard!!

I listened to it in bed and it was about 30 minutes long. You are told to listen every night for 2 weeks. I think I fell asleep most nights listening or maybe I was in a hypnotic trance Grin

He talks you through relaxation then imagining different scenarios where you don't smoke any more among other things.
There was a book along with the cd which gave various other techniques for dealing with cravings too.
I will add that it did take some months after stopping where I truly felt I didn't ever want to smoke again.

So you have managed to give up before - so you can do it again. You just need the right motivation - health, cost, smell, having breath at the top of a flight of stairs...

Hypnosis works but its not a magic wand. You need to want to give up and its really just the final kick up the backside in helping you do this.

If you do go for hypnosis, go for a one session hit, rather than the three-session process. Best to go cold tutkey imho (used to be a therapist!).
