Need some vaping help!

Hello lovely vapers!

I'm new to all this so not down with the lingo yet but I need a bit of help

My dad bought me a rok legend thing after I tried his but I'm not enjoying the flavour and think it's too low a dose so how do I go about changing the liquid? Do I just have to carry on and drain it down or do I have to empty and clean?

Also is it ok to use other brands in it?

Will I eventually need to buy whole new tank things?

I'm so puzzled by all this but desperate to get off the smelly cigs and save some cash!

I don't know what a rok is but if you want to change th eliquid that's fine. Just tip it away & rinse it out, gently with warm water & dry off.

Most new vapers go for 18mg strength liquid to start with, but some heavier smokers go for 24mg.

If you have a local vape shop get down there & have achat to them!

snickers251 · 09/05/2014 16:34

I can't say I've seen a shop about town that does em but I'm not in the biggest of cities

It's really as simple as that?! feel silly asking now, not sure what I've been googling!

I wouldn't say I am a heavy smoker but the 0.6 is definitely too low so will have a play about now I know how easy it is to change lol

Thanks for your speedy help magi Smile

After a quick Google it looks like a normal ego battery, but with a 'tankomiser" which I don't recognise. You should be able to just empty the tank as magi says, or just refill it and value through!

From looking at their website their atomisers aren't replaceable, and at £4.99 a shot I think you'll find it expensive. You'd be better off investing in a clearomiser with a replaceable head, more expensive to start with, but heads are cheaper to replace. Lots of folk like evods, or pro tanks, I use a vapeonly ets.

Allergictoironing · 09/05/2014 17:31

Another possible tank would be the GS-H2 - cheaper than the Rok one and with a replaceable atomiser. Pretty common, available from many reputable on-line stores.

A very rough rule of thumb is that for a 20 a day smoker, they should start out with 18mg strength liquid & estimate using around 20ml a week. This does vary from person to person, but it's a start to work from.

E-liquid is e-liquid, made from a mix of propylene glycol, vegetable glycol, nicotine & flavourings. Any decent brand will be fine in any tank, the only exceptions are that certain flavours can damage polycarbonate tanks but these usually have warnings by the vendor. One of the big plus points of vaping is that you do get a superb variety of flavours, maybe have a look at the swap thread for some ideas about what's out there! Surprisingly few vapers stay with a tobacco flavour after a while, there's only one person here I know of who vapes solely tobacco and most never use it.

Tanks, or at least the atomisers in them, class as consumable items and usually last between a few weeks and a few months. A battery will usually last between a few months & a year or so. Compare this plus the price of the e-liquid with the cost of cigarettes - about £20-30 a month on liquid, about £20 a year for a really good battery (though you do really need at least 1 spare) & probably around £25-30 a year on clearos/atomisers. But beware - shinyitis tends to infect most vapers in the first couple of months Shock!

snickers put the name of your town, or nearest large town into google with 'independent vape shop' & I hope you get some results!

I am the exception that proves the rule with my dedication to tobacco flavour Grin

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 09/05/2014 17:41

Hi snickers, I failed miserably when I started on 0.6% (aka 6mg). I would also advise starting on 18mg and then adjusting up or down as necessary.

If you don't have a vape shop nearby, don't despair, most online companies do very fast delivery. I buy a lot of liquids from Premier ecigs, they do a big range of flavours for £2 for 10ml. If you can afford it, get a few different flavours, you will probably surprise yourself with what you like.

Myepack do a wide range of clearomisers at good prices, most have replaceable heads. You might want to get two or three different ones to see what you prefer - it's a good idea to have at least one spare in any case.

If you want a few cheapo clearomisers for trying lots of flavours, GS-H2's are good. They are cheap enough that you can bin the whole thing, or you can get replacement coils for them.

Any clearo should fit on your battery if it's a standard ego. It looks like one from the image. Does it have two sets of screw threads - one outside and one inside the metal collar?

snickers251 · 09/05/2014 17:44

Bless my dad trying to help out, suspect he bought that one as it had a cool name and he likes to think of himself as a bit of a rock legend lol

I've googled a shop in the next town so will organise a trip there this weekend.

A bit more enthusiastic about it all now ... Thank you Smile

Plenty yes it has two screw bits, one to the battery then one where you unscrew the sucky bit and pour the liquid in. Is that what you mean?

Your Dad sounds lovely!

You may well find the shop a wee bit pricier than buying on line, but they will almost certainly be able to help you & show you how it all works. With a bit of luck they will also have some flavours you can try!

Let us know how it goes & good luck. I'm now 19 months free of fags & am so delighted with it.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 09/05/2014 17:52

No, two screw threads on the top of the actual battery, like this

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 09/05/2014 20:22

God I hope I haven't confused you away with the battery pic Blush I'm 99% sure that's a standard ego and any clearo will fit. It just doesn't say so on the website - probably so you think you have to buy all your products from them. This is one thing that pisses me off about some vendors, but that's probably for another thread.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 09/05/2014 21:12

Yes it's definitely an ego battery which means pretty much everything is interchangeable Smile

I found a review on

snickers251 · 10/05/2014 08:21

Yep that pic did confuse me tho may just be my mild hangover lol

I mentioned to my dad last night and he's only gone and ordered me 3 new flavours in a higher dose. I am capable of buying my own things I'm a 30yo mother of 2 fgs lol

Think I'm gonna place an order myself following your advice and have a mess about until I find something that suits me and get a better understanding of it.

Thanks for all your help Plenty xx

Sounds like he's got the vapers spending bug but ran out of stuff he needs so he's buying it all for you instead :-D

Shonajay · 23/05/2014 08:00

He sounds lovely. I did the same for my dd - otherwise she would never have got round to it. She smokes about five on a Saturday night, then vapes all week, she was on 15 a day so a great improvement. I've not had a cig since starting, I'm just loving the smells and tastes of the e liquid.

snickers251 · 25/05/2014 19:52

He really is love him

It's great that I've got someone close to me to talk about it too and we even swap unliked flavours

This week I've only bought a pack of ten but surprised myself how easy I've found it so I've not bought anymore snd gone 3 days without a real one

We just need to convert my mum now, she's a really heavy smoker and is still smoking more than vaping :(

OP posts:
ginmakesitallok · 25/05/2014 20:05

Well done snickers! My mum never took to vaping, she's still puffing away on cigs. But hopefully one day she'll try again.
