Blended family app idea

Hi everyone! I’m exploring an idea for an app for blended families and would really appreciate your honest thoughts. I have a stepson and wondered if this is something he would like to use with his mum when at our house 🙂

The idea is aimed at young children who are too young to read or text. Instead of having to type messages, a parent could send a simple voice check-in (for example, “How are you feeling?” or “what are you up to”), and the child could respond by tapping an emoji or picture, such as happy, sad, tired, or a heart ect.”

I would love to hear whether this would be useful. If you’re in a co-parenting situation (or know someone who is), I’d love to hear:
• Would you use something like this?
• What would you like about it?
• What concerns would you have?
• Are there any features you’d want that I’ve not thought of?

Thank you so much for any feedback—positive or negative. It will really help me decide whether this is something worth developing!

You might also get a lot of useful feedback from military families who might be interested in such an app, and grandparents!

I will say I am not immediately sure what the difference is with sending voice messages on Whatsapp , and why the pfaff of a separate app for the same function.

great idea! I think it would be something they could open up on their own iPad ect without needing an adult to guide them. I’m thinking ages 4/5/6

What if there was a contentious relationship between the parents (which there likely would be if they’ve resorted to an app) and the child responded with a sad emoji. They are 4, so they’re sad that one of their raisins dropped on the floor or that their apple isn’t round enough. The parent who is not with them doesn’t know this, they just know that their child is sad. So they worry, or it escalates to further animosity between parents.
