Hi everyone, i have a ss who is almost 7 years old.

When he comes to stay with us he is generally well behaved. At times he can come across as being hyper but i guess this is normal for kids. He has a short fuse and is on the defensive immediately if he is being asked to stop doing something. He also doesn't have a long concentration span and doesn't do an activity for any length of time.

When he is at his mums we hear that he hits her and swears at her (we have been told she behaves like this towards him too). In recent months he has been sent home from school on many occasions for being disruptive, not listening, not doing as he is told and today he hit the teacher!

Can anyone explain any of this please??

if she hits & swears at her son, thats why he is doing it back.
How long have the parents been apart?
Maybe his mother struggles at home by himself so has discipline problems.

How is your/ex's relationship with the mother? Can u offer help or talk about it?

Not all kids are hyper, my ds wasn't.........It sounds like he is agitated by his home life with his mum. 7 year olds are not routinely sent home from school, I think he sounds a very stressed unhappy angry little boy. If he is hitting a teacher he must have learnt to do that from somewhere

Hi, I agree with you both mistressmiggins and fizzbuzz. He is a lovely little boy when he is with us and then we hear things like this.

My DP and i both know that his behavious changes when he is back at his mums bacause of her behaviour towards him.

The one thing i thought of to help improve their relationship and communication was counselling.

What do you think?
