Specific issues order for child's passport

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience getting a specific issues order to obtain a child's passport. How long did it take from the application to actually getting the passport.

I'm hoping we won't need one but just being prepared as DSDs mum has previously for pulling stunts.

We are due to go on holiday in 8 weeks. DH texted his ex to ask if she could look out DSDs passport before he came to collect her today. As expected she didn't give him the passport and just said she would get it to him. She took DSD abroad 2 months ago so she's had it recently.

We were due to go on holiday two years ago, the ex approved it then the week before withdrew consent and told us if we took her she'd report us for kidnapping. So I'm feeling a bit nervous that she'll either refuse to hand it over or will wait until the last minute so we're stressing about it in the run up to the holiday.

DH is going to request it every week but I just wanted an idea of how long a specific issues order would take as I don't want to leave it too late to be able to get one if necessary.

She has previous for this, worrying for the next 8 weeks will ruin the run up to your holiday. I would get your DH to apply now. What a bloody rotten mother.

He's asked and she didn't give him it, she is going to play games till you go.

As poster above says, take control of the situation now and apply for a SIO.

I don’t know how long they are currently taking but they are meant to be for urgent issues.

My DH’s EW approved a holiday (4 months in advance in writing) then withdrew consent the night before by emailing at midnight & took the children away herself.

My DH took her to court for breaching the contact order (it was written in that he could take the children on holiday). The judge threatened to remove the children from her and wrote into the consent order that she had to hand over the passports (which my DH has applied & paid for) a month in advance.

If you don’t apply for the order now - you will forever be ranking to her tune.

I said to him to ask one more time and if she doesn't hand it over we'll submit the specific issues order. We're already in court for another issues. Getting sick of it to be honest. I'll maybe ask DH to speak to his lawyer about it to get an idea of how long it will take.

Parents who do this to their kids and use them as weapons don't deserve to have them. We don't have a CAO in place. They agreed 50:50 after they split and it was fine for about a year then she wanted to make changes that DH didn't feel was in SDs best interests. Because he said no she withheld access for 2 months. Lawyers were pretty hopefully and took ages just to send a simple letter. They ended up in mediation and an agreement was drawn up then which they both signed. Although not legally binding they were told that any breaches wouldn't look good in court and could be held against them. It's written in the agreement about giving notice for holidays ect and we gave plenty of notice and she approved the dates.

It amazes me the double standards they have. She wanted to take SD on holiday and got her boyfriend to contact my DH because he hasn't replied to her text about dates within 5 hours because he was working. When DH sent her a text about holiday date there was still no reply after 2 weeks. He asked her about it at a drop off and she said "yeah that's fine". He then sent a follow up text to confirm that she had agreed the dates. But yeah, he was the asshole for not replying to her within hours.

If she really wants it to go to court she definitely runs the risk of losing custody as we already have a diary of incidents from the last couple of years. We've spoken to both our lawyer and a friend from social services and unfortunately on it's own wouldn't be enough to get full custody. We have my DSS full time and he barely sees him mum and DSD has already started asking to stay here more and often says she doesn't want to go to her mum's. Although she's too young to be making that decision for herself I imagine in combination with BM withholding passports it won't look too good for her.

As always, the only people who get hurt are the kids. DSD is so excited about this holiday. She's even been watching Dora the explorer to learn Spanish.

My eldest is only 5 but absolutely loves and looks forward to his holidays. Imagine letting your kids miss out like this because you want to be in control!

She is so excited. She keeps saying 10 days isn't enough, she wants to go for 17 days (very specific) haha!

It's sad the number of family and friends parties she's missed out on because her mum said she "has plans" and the plans always turn out to be watching YouTube in her bedroom.

We got the passports!!

It is bad that I'm worried that this was too easy and there's a curveball coming our way? Hopefully not. I'm just so relieved we got them. We'll cross the next bridge if we come to it.
