Hi
Does anyone have any recommendations of films/books which give a positive portrayal of step/blended families. Im sure I have heard of some but cannot find anything now. Thanks

The sound of music? Although the first stepmum is mean Confused

The film Stepmum is good, sad but good.

Mrs Doubtfire?

@Potpourri23

Mrs Doubtfire?
It's not really a very positive portrayal, though. I always really struggle to think of films for kids about step families that don't end with the original parents getting back together, which doesn't seem exactly helpful.

Stepmom is good but has a cancer storyline which conveniently gets rid of one dynamic so it skews the film in terms of a 'normal' experience.. Having said that the earlier scenes are quite good about how the 'stepmom' and mum work out their boundaries.

The Suitcase Kid for the 10yo. The story is very accurate - even down to a fight between mum and dad over who is “looking after” the title character the best.

The story has ups and downs and is accurate because none of the blending starts well. But it ends with acceptance. And the step mum is lovely!

@aSofaNearYou I know Mrs Doubtfire doesn't seem like a positive portrayal but it does end with the kids happily accepting Pierce Brosnan as their stepfather-figure

Ah yes, I forgot the ending in fairness. Definitely better than The Parent Trap!!
