I'm posting this on SP forum as it's mostly split / blended / co-parenting people ...

Thoughts on the new TV show and new way of 'co-parenting'?

My partner (who has a child from previous relationship) had some interesting and hypocritical things to say about it ...

I think it’s a vile premise for a TV show...almost where two people win a child to raise together. A human life!

Being a separated parent is hard enough, why would you purposefully bring a child into it...there are other ways to become a parent without an “aarangement”. Adoption being one!

I agree with you for the most part; adoption is no easy option though and I say this as an adopted child and someone who knows people who have adopted children.

It certainly was a weird programme (as was the programme about surrogacy recently).

The 34 year old nanny struck me as someone who, if she settles down in one place, will make friends and find a man with whom to have a relationship, and children. She seemed very attractive and personable as far as one can tell from aTV programme.

In this day and age so many people seem to think they have a right to a child just because they 'get broody' or whatever. In past times people on their own had to accept childlessness and very often lived fulfilling and useful lives; I was not in that position but have always hoped I would have been like that. Who knows?

It is very hard being a one parent family (though this programme was about co-parenting, one wonders how it would turn out in reality), most don't choose it. The least parents can do for their children is conceive them in a loving committed relationship at that time, of course we can't predict the future.

I thought it a grim idea for a program. If this is considered entertaining and educational, humans deserve to become extinct.

I think it’s absolutely abhorrent to be honest

I would love to know what he said, not out of nosiness but it is such an interesting subject with strong ethical implications; I'm sure there would be many opinions. It's good for us to think about such things even if we do find it odd if not somewhat unsavoury.
