My partner and I are trying for a baby, my partner already has a son from a previous marriage who comes and stays with us every now and then. We live in a 2 bedroom flat and the 2nd bedroom is set up as my stepsons room, but obviously if we had a baby it would be here permanently, we dont want to then decorate the room to be the babies and for my stepson to feel put out by it all, hes 10 but hes a big softy and we really don't want to upset him or make him feel left out. Ideally we would move to a 3 bedroom home but we cant afford that financially. Any ideas on how to go about things?

Do not give up your bedroom! Pregnant you are not wanting to sofa bed surf :) kids love things like that so keep you step child in the small room and if sharing isn't an option a few months down the line get a sofa bed or blow up bed for them?

That being said it depends how often they frequent your house?

Is one of your bedrooms big enough for a room divider?

We used 2 kallax dividers from B&Q (purchased second hand through eBay, absolute bargain) and split our largest room into 2 areas, one side is for DS10 and the other for DS2. They've been a godsend, I know it's not completely shut off but they give that separation and privacy we were after. We were able to decorate the 2 areas differently to each child's taste. Plus the dividers are not fixed so if/when they're not working for us we'll take them down and pass or sell them on.

Like pp I use Ikea furniture to divide a large room. It works well, but needs securing to the walls. With boxes inside it is a useful wall.

Sorry, me getting confused, it was the Karalis room divider, not kallax that we used.

The karalis is more like a partition wall, only an inch or 2 thick.
