Does it get easier?

Hi just wanted to find out from other step parents/blended families does it get easier the older the children are? I know it varies for many different reasons but on the whole is it easier to blend a family with kids 16/17 yrs then 10 yr olds?

My guessing is that it would be, as the older they are the more they have their own lives and can be as involved or not involved as they want to be.

My partner and I have been together 5 yrs and are waiting to move in until his Son who lives with him full time and my Son are older, currently 10 and 11 yrs. My Son is adamant he is not interested at all in moving in so im hoping he will care less the older he gets!

Would really like other peoples opinions.
Thanks Smile

@Rootd thanks for reply. It was fine in the beginning but after 5 years we are still at the dating stage and as @Magda72 says its very difficult to have a relationship when its limited to a night a week plus a few hours here and there. I wont be moving in anytime soon but Im pretty sure my Sons feelings wont change to its very difficult to know whats best. Another 10 years of just dating could split us up.

@asofaNearYou its really hard to keep a relationship going barely seeing the person. Your 100% right its not a small thing at all. Its basically dating someone for 10 years+

I would have the children together more try doing an activity that your son would love and the next time what his son would love to do, I'm not a step parent but was a step child. I was reassured by my dad that me and my brother was his priority. But before he moved in with my step-mum we used to spend the weekends at either her house or my dads house all together I think that helped us all bond and form friendships with each other
