Looking for ideas for my dss who is now 10. We don't see him and haven't for a couple of Christmas's now but send a parcel.

I'm thinking
Clothing
Sweets/chocs
A voucher to do something with friends
A game or Lego/ science type set for a rainy day

We're a bit tight on cash but I don't want to scrimp on quality for him either, do you think he'd like this?

Oooh, that's tough.
Do you see him at all?
Does your DH know him well enough to know what might be his choice?
All the things you've listed are lovely gifts but do smack of 'distant relative' rather than parent unless he's particularly into lego or science stuff. A bit impersonal ?
Can his Mum give guidance or is the relationship that frayed?
I used to help/advise my ex for the sake of the DCs getting something they would really love.

I should emphasize that if you don't know his current passions/loves then your choices are excellent as all-round gifts.

I think sending a gift is a thoughtful thing to do. I'd probably leave out clothes though, few 10 yr olds I know consider clothing an exciting gift, unless he's into certain brands. I'd stick with fun stuff. Maybe some slime and a game. Small, post able and fun - Doble or similar perhaps?

Dh sent a letter to ask what he'd like etc but we never get a reply just a photo.

He's into Lego, mine craft and his mum and family are very outdoorsy so I know a warm jumper would go down well. He always liked going shopping we me because he said I knew what he liked. I'm thinking joules/ fat face and some socks ( I know they're boring but practical).

Dh tried with mum too and got nothing. I think voucher for bowling might be good and has a long date on it for dh's ex to organise.

In that case, sounds like you've got it covered. You can get some good 'cheat' type books with Minecraft that tell you how to do special things with certain blocks.

I don't know any 10 year old lad that would wear Joules or Fat Face. It's a lovely idea, but I'd stick to Hype, Adidas or Nike. Everything else sounds fab.
