I have two toddlers and a baby on the way. We also have 13 year old SS 50% of the time. His dad works so I am the one ensuring he gets up for school. Except he won't. His alarm goes for over an hour and I am calling him every five minutes. He's a few minutes late almost every day and the situation is driving me nuts.
The step part of the story is almost not relevant except if (when) my kids are pulling this I will be much more 'assertive' getting them up.
Any tips? I feel responsible for a situation I can't control very well. And yes the school aren't happy either

Well, he got up ten minutes earlier than normal and left for school in good time. I'm taking that as a win today. We even had a nice chat, no grunting or anything Grin
Northern, we would let him suffer the consequences at school but he really couldn't give a shiny shit what they say or do unfortunately.
It's a work in progress

If he was 16 I'd say let him to sort himself out. But there's a good reason 13 year olds still live at home with parents -they do still need parenting. Sounds like this morning went well though - well done!

When our 13 year old was dragging his heels getting out of bed we told him that he clearly wasn't getting enough sleep and needed to go to bed earlier if he was too tired to get up which meant removal of all devices an hour earlier than normal until he could prove for 3 mornings in a row that he could get up. It worked a treat and he can also use it in his favour if he'd like slightly longer awake at night and then gets up the next morning.
It puts the ball in their court and it's them that loses out if they don't tow the line.
