DSD is nearly 5 years old, Since I met my dp, when she was two she's been waking up and the routine was to come into our room wake us up and then he put the tv on. It drove me mad. It still happens but it's more on our terms when we decide to put the tv on. It does still drive me mad though. Why does she need to get into our bed in the morning? What does everybody else do? Am I just being silly?

My dd gets in every morning on a weekend or in holidays. It’s lovely to share cuddles before we have to get up for the day. I think a lot of people do and although she is not your daughter, it would be a shame for her not to have that time with her dad and I can imagine she would feel pushed out and resentful if you stop it. She will grow out of it before long but I think she needs this time for now.

I think it’s lovely. It’s a way for her to be close to her dad while he gets an bit more rest

That's true. I suppose it's not going to last forever is it 🤔

It depends how frequently this is. If you have her 2 days a fortnight (EOW) then I would either just put up with it or go sleep in her bed /spare room (if you have one) until you want to wake up. - 4 mornings a month at the weekend if you're not working during the day is not too much to put yourself out for..
If it's more regular. (Shared care) then sofabed in sitting room and off they both go in the morning.!

No its not lovely. Your DP should go to her if he wants to spend time with her in the morning and give cuddles..He can get up, take her to a living room and watch tv with her there and you get to sleep if you want..She is not your child and it's not appropriate. It's your bed and you are entitled not to get ot invaded by your DPs child. You are also entitled to a lie in.

I agree with @WhiteCat1704. It's lovely she wants cuddles but he should be getting up with her. Surely he can have cuddles on the sofa if he still wants to rest?

EsmereldaPepperpot · 06/08/2018 11:39

Awww she's tiny. Both my stepkids used to climb into bed with us. It doesn't last long. She will stop on her own. It's very normal. That said I'd teach her how to use the remote!

Thank you everyone. I'm
quite glad I have mixed opinions as it makes me feel less like the wicked old witch! You know what, it won't last forever, and who am I to take it away from them. One day we will have our own kids and I'm sure ill appreciate that time too. I think a Compromise is the best option and every so often they can go watch tv in the living room! Smile
