Hi there

Wondering if anyone has any experience of anything like this and what your views are.

My DSS is 9 and me and his dad have been together since he was 1 year old. I have a great relationship with DSS and also DH's ex however a few weeks ago DSS blurted out that his mum told him that his dad left her for me which is categorically not true. They had been split up a long time before we met. Any ideas on how this should be dealt with? We reassured DSS that this was not true but I just feel that he's a bit too young at that age to be getting all these thoughts put in his head.

Thanks in advance.

I think your DH needs to talk to his Ex. Could be DSS misunderstood...so best not to accuse her...but he should say what DSS said and ask for an explanation.

Your DH needs to find out where this has come from, it's not necessarily the child's mother. He could start by asking her if, anyone she knows of could have suggested this in the child's hearing!

Thanks folks. He's adamant his mum told him. He even asked his gran if it was true and told her the exact same word for word as what he told us. He's never been a child to play people off against each other and it's not like the going between both sets of patents has affected him as it's all he's ever known so it's 'normal' to him.

Was there a short time between you and your dp getting together tbh I never understand how someone could with a man who had a child as young as 1 but that’s me personally.

I think maybe Is what his mother thinks. I think your Dh really needs to talk to that woman and be clear that those type of comments aren't appropriate. It was such a long time too, so what's the point? Maybe it would be a good idea to get Dh to talk to his son and explain why they got divorced. Good luck xx
