Hi

Please could you tell me what you think is the fairest way to work out costs for child/maintenance etc?

Child's mum and dad split. Fairly amicably

Both the mum and dad work full time earning very similar amounts. The child is 5 and at school and uses breakfast and after school club 4 days a week. The dad has adjusted his hours so the child isn't in childcare 5 times a week. This means he has to work Saturdays, so the mum has the child 4 nights a month more than the dad. They strived for 50/50 but struggle due to the work pattern. The dad's proportion of childcare is therefore lower as he uses 1.5 days compared to the mum's 2.5 days

Both parents have the same size house to give child their own bedroom. Both parents feed, clothe, do activities etc on their respective days. Both have a good mix of doing school runs etc and fun weekends.

Child does activities such as swimming which is paid trembly. Then there is stuff like school milk, uniforms etc

They both accumulated tax credit debt when they were together which is £50 a month

What do you think is the fairest way to work out all costs between them?

Forgot to add they do complete 50/50 during school holidays and neither uses or pays for childcare then

I would use the official calculator and put in your pay details and how much you have the children.

You can always pay more if you feel you can afford it but it gives you a good idea.

Mum and dad pay 50% of the childcare bill each. Dad paying 1/2 rather than 3/8 makes up for the extra 4 days mum has the child. )I know that some months have 5 weeks but close enough)

Thank you for your suggestions so far
