Step-parent adoption

Hi everyone,

My husband is a step father to my daughter and has applied to adopt her. That was last year and we have just been allocated a social worker. She is coming in 2 weeks to meet us for first time. I was just wondering if anyone has has any experience of that ...what should I be expecting. And also the social worker told me on the phone that they haven't actually written to my ex husband about the adoption just yet (we don't have any contact with him for 6 yrs). Do you know when the authorities contact the biological father and ask for his consent if he agrees to the adoption do we still have to go to court or not necessary ?

Thanks in advance :)

when he came to the divorce proceedings back in the day the judge asked him why he hasn't responded to any letters , he said he never received them!!! Judge said: Yeah right do you think I believe you !!!

So i believe sw will have trouble to find him or arrange a meeting with him.

My understanding is that if your ex continues to ignore contact attempts then his consent will be dispensed with. We'll likely have a similar situation with my husband's ex. She ignores registered letters, whatsapp messages, emails and phone calls. Short of flying to Europe and waiting outside her house like a stalker, there is not much else I can do(!) We are going to discuss that at our next meeting.

Good luck and let me know if you have any more qs Smile

Thank you for replying :) I am just so anxious and nervous about the whole thing but you made me feel better now :)

He lives only 2 hours drive from us and I have given them his postal address. I have no phone number or email for him. They will need to write to him and he will need to respond which I am 100% sure he will not do. Sounds like that might actually work in our favour.

Lateforeverything what sort of questions shoals I prepare my hubby for? Not sure if you can tell me on here....??

Just about to start this process myself, who do I call to get started?

I'm in England and had to contact the local authority first of all. Three months after giving the LA notice you will be allowed to apply to court. During that period you should be assigned a social worker who will visit you and write up a report on hour situation, taking the best interests of the child into account first and foremost.
