Birthday present for new boyfriend's son

I've been seeing a lovely, lovely man for a couple of months now. Obviously it's very early days, but I've a really strong feeling that he and I are in it for the long haul :)

Anyway, it's his son's 19th soon. I've met him several times and we get on really well (again I know it's really early days). I want to get him a little present just from me - under £20.

Would that be weird?

I'd get him a card and write a friendly message. You don't know if this is the long haul. Also even if it is, your friend's son may not yet be ready to take this on board. There is plenty of time...

It's only a few weeks, so I'd do no more than a voucher in a card (nice, but not too personal) but only if I'd met him.

MassaAttack · 02/06/2015 09:08

You're right, I don't need to be too personal. I'm not trying to win him over, but it would seem weird not to acknowledge his birthday at all.

I've never dated anyone with children before, so it's all new to me.

Card and bottle of wine? That's a nice grown up present for a 19 year old.

VanitasVanitatum · 02/06/2015 09:18

I'd second a voucher, maybe iTunes if he's into music?

Tequilashotfor1 · 02/06/2015 09:20

I'd get him a card and a bottle of somthing.

WindMeUpAndLetMeGo · 02/06/2015 09:26

If go with a card and stick a note in it, I expect he has plans to go out for his birthday and extra beer money is always appreciated.

crossroads15 · 02/06/2015 09:33

I was going to say iTunes too. It's my go-to present for all the 'youths' in my life! Or cinema vouchers if his life isn't dominated by all things Apple.

NerrSnerr · 02/06/2015 09:38

I'd get him some alcohol of his liking (no point in getting wine if he doesn't drink it).

MassaAttack · 02/06/2015 14:31

Some great ideas here, thank you everyone Smile

Definitely card and iTunes voucher. Alcohol's a bit 'grown up' and dinner party-ish.

hellsbells99 · 04/06/2015 12:50

Hip flask?

VirginiaWoofs · 04/06/2015 18:00

I'm 22 and would appreciate cash or booze in this scenario! Does he drink?

VirginiaWoofs · 04/06/2015 18:01

If he does drink I reckon he'd appreciate a crate of beer or a bottle of JD. Maybe stick a bow on it for a laugh.Grin

VirginiaWoofs · 04/06/2015 18:02

Tryharder - 19 is "grown up" so I don't know what you mean? All of my friends appreciate booze as a gift.

Shootingstar2289 · 14/06/2015 19:56

How about a gift card? iTunes, Amazon, Game or for a clothes store? Depends what he's into :)
