Ohhh make sure you make a big fuss of the good behaviour, you should see more of it then :)

wheresthelight · 18/10/2014 09:09

stercus - always do!! with bad behaviour it is dealt with and then once punishment is completed then we always say "right all done, start again with clean slate" or words to that effect so they know that it's done dusted and won't be used as a stick to beat them with.

he started at secondary school in September and I think having gone from being top dog academically speaking to top side of average and having to learn that he is not the ne all and end all has been the making of him. he was really worries over the summer about being bullied as hi step sister at his mum's house was telling him horror stories and now he has seen that it doesn't always happen and he has made some friends he has had a complete personality flip.

mind we are talking of a kid who 6 weeks ago you had to wrestle into the shower and now spends hours in there and asks me to add his favourite deodorant to my shopping list!!

That's a typical teen though shower wise - well if mine is anything to go by Grin

Hopefully its turned a corner then :) Long may it continue.. and yes, it is stressful beginning secondary, i clearly remember being told the fifth years showing my age there would 'flush your head down the bog on your birthday and for looking at them wrong' - never happened lol

wheresthelight · 18/10/2014 17:55

Haha stercus I hope so!! and yes that is exactly what his step sister has been terrorising him with!! (am also old enough for fifth form)

I don't think it helps that he is the weird kid. he is lovely but he has spent primary school alome as he tends to get ott upset about truly ridiculous things and walks round the playground talking to himself. high school will I hope curtail some of his eccentricities and mould him into a more socially normally teenager

Probably not i'm afraid, but you never know.
Maybe they'll pick up that he has asd or something..

May be a bit late for playdates but does he have any hobbies he'd like to try that might involve him making friends with similar interests?

wheresthelight · 19/10/2014 10:57

so far he seems to have settled in well. he has made a couple of friends and is gutted that he can't swim as he really wanted to go on a school holiday to Austria but one of the conditions is to be a proficient swimmer and he is terrified of getting his face wet where as at primary school you had to force him to get involved in anything at all.

they did an overnight "get to know your year" trip to a local outward bound centre a few weeks ago and be loved it and I think it gave people a chance to see the other side of him.

he is stupidly smart and I think the fact that there are other kids as smart and smarter has made him realise he isn't a freak and actually there are people on his wave length if he makes an effort to speak which is one definite improvement!

Swimming lessons goggles and nose plug then :)

I love swimming but hate getting my face wet.. on a par with how much i hate getting sand on my feet/body.. ruins trips to the beach :( well ok only if i let it lol

Sounds like he will do fine, in his own way/own time :)
