Fetch doggy!

Ok so i must be over protective or am I? Dps daughter has just thrown a toy and said to my 1 yr old DS fetch doggy! Why does that annoy me so much? Why can't I just look at it like it's normal kid behaviour. I feel she is being nasty in a round about way! I wish I could see it differently. Does anyone else ever feel over protective or am I just OTT?

I think you are being ott unless there is a back story to this?

How old is your DSD and is this just playing around or is there form?

It is easy to be overly sensitive, especially if you feel alone.

I think the extent to which I would find it OK/not OK would depend on DSD's age.

However, if it's annoying you, it's important to deal with it. Could you say calmly "she's not a dog, please don't say that" to DSD?

purpleroses · 31/05/2014 05:26

I can actually remember saying that to my baby sister as a young child. It was a delight that she understood me and would do as I asked. [Grin]

I can also still recall the day she turned round and said "No"!

So yes I do think it shouldn't upset you really. Though fine to gently remind her that DD is not a dog.

Thanks for your replies. To be fair she is only 6. I've not much experience of children before DSD and DS.

DSD also has sibling at her DM's. DP has noticed her behaviour at her mothers when he's dropped her off. She picked up a picture that her other younger brother had made at nursery and went to rip it. She has also brought some of her other brothers toys to our house in her pocket and thought it was really funny that he wouldn't know where they are.
Is this normal sibling behaviour, I find it really difficult to leave DSD and DS together even for a few minutes x

Completely normal game, my friends child (5) regularly plays this at the park with my DD and she loves it. She's 20 months now but will still usually oblige and run back in hysterical giggles.

And I think that's normal, if a bit jealous, sibling behaviour. My brother was far worse than that with me and our parents were together.
On a side note just try to make sure she feels included and not pushed out or 'less a part of the family' though I'm sure you already are.

If she is only 6 I agree that it's pretty normal. As is the other stuff, I'm afraid...my nephews did all the same sort of stuff with their brothers, and they are wonderfully close just a few years later.

You might want to join in the game too, and have her pretend to be a dog as well - I think you'll see pretty quickly that she just wants to play - my DD (4) makes me play at being all manner of animals, and takes turns being them too. I found myself crawling on the floor barking in front of a neighbour the other day and realised I'd probably let it go a little too far. ;)
