Hi everyone,
And by the way, I'm new to mumsnet, and this is my first post. I'm hoping for a few words of wisdom.
I have a 4 1/2 year old ds, and I am about to have my 8 year old neice come to live with us. My sisters situation is complex, she is divorced and moving to live near us as she has no support or childcare and she travels abroad for work. So for about half the month I will be a 'parent' of sorts to my niece.
I'm looking forward to it in lots of ways - we cannot have more children so it will be lovely for ds, but inevitably I'm panicking! They are moving about 200 miles, new school, and my sister has not sold her house, so my niece will be with us all the time untill things get sorted out. New school, new friends....it won't be easy for her.
I don't know quite what I'm asking - what experiences do others have of taking in a child when yuo have one of your own? Ant tips for making both ds and my niece feel reasonably secure about it? Untill now they have both been 'only children' and now they will be more like siblings?
Any tips for me?

Thanks... and what a great site!

Thanks.
I've just been having a fantastic hour cruising round the site - it might even get me to switch on the computer more than one a week....
