Dp and his dd staying over tonight (she is 5 1/2)

Ds is 6

They are wanting to watch a movie in bed, I think this is fine but gut instinct says they should sleep in sep beds (will mean different rooms)

Just very cautious. Don't want to make a situation where there isn't one but also don't want it give dp's ex anything to complain about. Trying to imagine if the shoe was on the other foot iykwim

Been seeing each other 2 years if that is relevant

Thanks

Probably ok at that age unless either has form for "show me your willy" type games. You could put them in separate sleeping bags if they have them. I've taken groups of kids camping many times and we tend to find mixed sex tent sharing works ok to about age 7.

misshoohaa · 02/11/2013 20:13

Go for the safe option. Separate beds.

elliebellys · 02/11/2013 21:51

Can u get blow up beds?

Redtartanshoes · 02/11/2013 22:56

Ds has been asleep in his bed for nearly 2 hours....

Dp's dd is still bouncing about in spare room... With dp.

I think it will be a while until the next "sleepover"
Hmm

Sooooo- you're worried about a 5 and 6 year old sharing a bed..........??????

midwifeandmum · 02/11/2013 23:02

Go grab a gin and leave dp with childcare, sounds like he's having fun lol

TwoStepsBeyond · 02/11/2013 23:03

DS and dsd share a room as they are the same age (just turned 9). I think it's sad to put any kind of sexual/inappropriate slant on a friendship at that age. DS is still very much a child and much less likely to allow anyone to see his willy than he was as a young child!

Redtartanshoes · 02/11/2013 23:10

Honestly, I was many worried at all, but then I know my ds, it's my house and I'm pretty relaxed and trusting/open. I just wasn't sure whether there was some sort of etiquette/"rules"..

Dp's ex can be "difficult" at times, and whilst I would have had no problem with them sharing (apart fr them keeping me each other awake) I would have hated to inadvertently caused a row...

I guess I just hadn't given it any thought until now, and wanted to check?

Your DP sounds a bit of a Disney dad letting her stay up bouncing around till 11 o'clock.
That would worry me more tbh. If your DS has a set bedtime while DSD doesn't then that will set up problems for the future.

Petal02 · 03/11/2013 17:07

Kaluki - I totally agree with your post.

usualsuspect · 03/11/2013 17:08

Why would you even worry about this?

mumandboys123 · 03/11/2013 17:57

in all honesty, I wouldn't like it but I wouldn't make a fuss about it;s probably unreasonable to feel like that and I also recognise it's outwith my control anyway. I have boys, though. I might feel more inclined to make a fuss if I had girls who were sleeping with 'unknown' boys? Depends how much of a fuss mum is inclined to make, I guess.

Redtartanshoes · 03/11/2013 18:13

Re bedtimes...

She doesn't have a "bedtime" at home, usually still awake late but her mum is fine with it do consequently come the weekend it's the same story... Awake at 10/10.30 then sleeping until 10/11 the next morning... She was put to bed at 9 but wouldn't go to sleep... She wasn't any trouble, singing chattering away but still awake gone 11

I don't agree with at all, ds is 8pm bedtime but it's not my business... It's the last of a long list of parenting differences we have but hey ho. It's why we don't live together

As I read it, this is a one-off sleepover at the OP's house - her DP and his DD don't normally stay there overnight. Normal enough for a 5 year old to be a bit over-excited about something like that. Don't think my DD (7 at the time) got to bed at her usual time the first time I brought them to stay over at DP's house either.

purpleroses · 03/11/2013 18:21

Sorry - cross post there.

JumpingJackSprat · 03/11/2013 18:25

I don't think you were wrong to ask the question op. I'd have put them in separate beds.

Redtartanshoes · 03/11/2013 19:09

They were in sep beds in sep rooms... Felt like the "right thing" and tbh less hassle as only one bed in ds's room but a spare room.

Meant ds got a full nights sleep Grin
