Whats in a name...

Slightly frivolous topic...but would you give your child a name if one of sc had a child with the same name (so technically your sgc)...

Im pregnant and love a name, but sd has already given one of her children the same name Sad!!!!

In my family there are three Pauls (my Dad and 2 x Cousins (1 x 18, 1 x 40)...

Just wondered would it be too weird!

I wouldn't tbh. Only because it could be confusing.
Although coincidentally DSD's name is my favourite girls name so if one of my sons had been a girl we could have had two kids in the same family with the same name!!!!

No, I probably wouldn't, it's a shame though. If your heart is really set on that name could you talk to your SD about it? Congratulations on your pregnancy.

No, I think I'd avoid that. Would be a bit confusing to have two by the same name and DSD might think you'd "pinched" her child's name.

If I was the step daughter I would think you were a bit odd tbh. There are million of names to choose from.

Also, just wondering really... is there a reason you posted in this topic instead of baby names/chat/aibu? Are there issues surrounding step relations already?

Don't do it
Just don't!

Can you talk to SD about it? If this has been your "favourite" baby name for years and years, she might understand. Depends on your relationship really.

Hi all

Posted here as I didn't realise there was a specific listing for names.
There aren't any issues with sd, its just husband and I are discussing names at the moment and I keep thinking of this name.

Husband has said no already, but I just wondered what others would do...damn she beat me to it!!!Wink

I think I knew not to pursue it further, but its just one of those names that I love and think its a nice name...

Back to the drawing board and Baby Names lists!

Ps thankyou for all the feedback...

Aah Ok littlejosh.
I only asked as I can see in some families a 'same name' situation would be seen as an honour and something nice, but if there are any fraught-type relationships I would imagine it might be seen as not good at all!

I guess if you love it you could always ask sd what she thinks?

Baby names board is what you need now Wink You will be inspired I promise Grin

Can you have it as a middle name? Then your child can choose to use it later if they want to.

When I first met DH, quite by chance, the dog I had at that time (acquired before meeting DH) had the same name as his ex wife ...... Pure coincidence, but hilarious!

Sorry, I know that doesn't answer your query, but it just reminded me.

My DD was born 9 months before my cousin had her DS. We decided if we were to have a boy next we like a certain name. When chatting to pregnant cousin we discovered that is the name she had chosen for her baby boy! Devastated! It's not even that common! Don't you hate when people beat you to it?
Anyway seems like you have figured out the answer. Best of luck! Smile

I wouldn't use the same name. Is must be very annoying though. Is there a similar name you like ?
