Headlice?

Hello, I think Dss may have headlice and be trying to get rid of them himself without telling anyone.

The reason for this is, I work with vulnerable children so comb my hair every Sunday with a nit comb as a precaution. I do ds's too as he's at nursery. Last Sunday I combed my hair in the morning then washed the comb thouroughly. Then I came to do ds's in the evening and there was a live louse in the comb. I thought I must have missed it so cleaned it, did ds's, then re checked mine and there was nothing. After rechecking mine I disinfected the comb and checked in by holding it up to the light.

This morning I went to do my hair again and there were 2 live lice sitting on the comb. I googled and they only live for 1-2 days off human hair so they can't have been there all week, and couldn't have been eggs I don't think as there were no live lice except that one I found in the comb and I had disinfected it. Ds is only 3 so couldn't have done it himself and dh has barely any hair lol.

How can I/ dh broach the subject without causing embarrassment? Or can anyone suggest another reason they could be there?

How old is your DSS? I'm guessing a pre-teen or young teen?

I would suggest you tell a little white lie and say that you have brought them home with you from work, so you want to show him how to do his, just in case he's picked them up from you Wink

My DSS is always bringing nits here - we have a standard routine for nit combing everyone in the house, so that he doesn't feel singled out Smile

I second, saying to everyone that you have bought them home and just want to show him how to do it

Ooh I like that idea ( but might claim it was ds Wink) thanks. Yes he is 12 and with thick longish hair ( in a won't-have-it-cut style rather than styled longish hair) so treating him will be fun, and ongoing I'm sure :(

I take NADM's approach with worms too.... DP loves taking that medicine (NOT!!!) Grin

He could do it himself in the bath I would have thought once you've shown him, with conditioner on to make comb go through easier?
