Just realised that my due date clashes with an access weekend ...

Hahahaha!

That's it really - I'm expecting my first baby in three weeks on the same weekend DSD is due to come to our house. Would you pre-warn DSD's mum or just leave it and see what happens - afterall, bambino could be early/late?!

Just for info - messing with the access rota is frowned upon by Ex, so would rather opt for the path of least resistance and not rock the boat unnecessarily!

I'd mention it if it came up but otherwise don't worry. She's a parent herself, she knows that babies come to their own timetable, only 5% come on their due date.

Ok - have you got family (grandparents, aunts, uncles etc) that can be drafted in for emergency childcare. Last thing you want is to dashing into hospital and having nowhere for DSD so you OH can't come with you!!

I think it would be worth mentioning to her mum. I had to actually ask my ex about 2 weeks before the due date what the plan was for when his wife went into labour if the DC's were at their house. I was a bit pissed off miffed that he had got his boss on standby. I then offered to fetch the kids if/when it happened as I would rather have known where they were than be looked after by virtual strangers.

As it happened ex had enough time to bring DC's home when she did go into labour.

Has your DP got any family nearby that could be called on just in case? If you have to make a change to the access weekend surely the mum would make an allowance for this kind of circumstance????

Or is the ex the type of person who'd make a point of being non co-operative?

boohoohoo · 23/03/2012 18:06

Had my DS at home and my DSS was with us at the time, I was totally naked and pushing the babies head out when he (he was ten at the time) walked into the bedroom asking where the hosepipe was as he was going to wash the dog down Confused, my Dh looked like this Shock and I just mumbled I'll sort it out in a moment! Bless him, dont think hes ever got over it!

So yeah, might be an idea to sort something out Grin to be fair, DS did come very quickly (7 mins) so we didnt have much time to get ready.

purpleroses · 23/03/2012 18:41

I would tell the ex, and ask her if she'd be prepared to be on standby to have DSD if you're in labour that weekend. If she says no (or if she's not local enough to be any use once DSD is with you), then sort out some other childcare option with friends or family.

Don't rearrange access just cause it's your due date though - you're just as likely to have the baby a week early or late.

Good luck!

AnitaBlake · 25/03/2012 16:17

We rearranged nothing when I was due. Make sure you have options for childcare, I had to go into howpital at 34w and we took SD with us. Once I was settled (I was admitted for a week due to high BP) H took SD to his mums for lunchn caame back to me and his mum dropped SD off at the usual time.

In our case, the ex would never ask us to take SD, preferring to make her own childcare arrangements and IMO when we have SD, she's our problem much the same as DD is. If I'd gone into labour at any point, SD would have been left with one of my relatives (sister, most likely) until drop-off, or whatever, we would have dealt with it.

TheBreadstick · 26/03/2012 12:17

Thanks Ladies - I think we'll pre-warn ex that baby is due that weekend and can she be on standby should needs be?

I was reluctant to make a big deal of it as OH sees so little of DSD I didn't want ex to just say, "Well you can't have DSD that weekend." Which she quite feasably would, but I guess if we forewarn her and she choses to be pbstructive then so be it - her choice, her karma! Will also probably get in-laws on emergency standby incase Ex can't be available.

I had my two DSDs when I gave birth to DS (my PFB)

And DH's ex demanded that DSD2 was taken to a photoshoot (she's a Modddeeeellllllllllll) at the very time I was supposed to give birth. Thankfully, the birth was delayed (it was El CS).

DH's Ex also had DSD1 wailing about homework at precisely the time DH was meant to be Best Man at my sister's wedding (thankfully the wedding had been brought forward)

Some Exes are exes for a very good reason!!!!

Good luck with the birth!!
