Thats for all the replies - and taxi, you and I are very similar in some ways. All interesting points from everyone, but as I dont actually know what I wanted to get out if this, I have no idea if this helped Grin

I have no kids and no hope of having any now as during the fight for access my DH had the snip (I agreed with at the time and never have cried over spilt milk)

but i am extremely lucky to have a gorgeous now full time stepdaughter that loves me :o

I'm stepmum to a DSS who lives in South Africa but is coming to live with us full time next year (he needs to do a full year in an English speaking class as his first language is Afrikaans so whilst he speaks pretty good English, he needs to get used to learning in it). No kids of my own yet and, given my age and experience with an EP earlier this year, I am not holding my breath!

I've enjoyed reading the step parent threads tonight, and will probably be posting a bit more as the months go on and our plans to bring DSS over here start coming to fruition, but at this stage I am just really excited and happy that DSS is coming to live with us.

He's just turned 12, glitzy. He'll be 13 by the time he comes to live with us.

He's an extraordinary kid - for a variety of reasons, he had a pretty rubbish start in life yet he is well adjusted, kind, thoughtful, courteous, loving... ok, he can be naughty like all kids, pushing boundaries but he's generally a good kid. It's going to be a massive adjustment for him so will take a lot of time and patience from us to help him settle in. No doubt I will be posting tearing my hair out threads in a year or so.

The one thing I don't have to worry about is him resenting me or comparing me to his Mum as he has no relationship with her at all. The flip side of that is he's not used to having a Mother full stop, although he does have lots of strong, female influences in his life including my MiL and SiL.

Lula..how exciting for you! He sounds like a great kid :)

Definitely stick around..I don't post very often but I do lurk and there's always great advice and support on here :)

Thanks, bluebell. He really is!

I've already become pretty addicted to MN. I think I'll be here for a while! :)
