Should I be worried...

...that my recently turned eight yr old DSS has described in detail the plotlines & visual effects of several disaster movies (all rated 12 or above) that he watches with his mum?

I have asked DP to have a word with him tomorrow so that he doesn't talk about the graphic scenes (such as a man melting when he walks through lava in 'Volcano') in front of my nearly 11 yr old very sensitive DD who avoids less graphic PG movies as she finds them distressing!

What, if any, behaviour should we be on the lookout for that might suggest that SS is adversely affected by seeing these movies and is there anything DP can do, if so?

tbh - that sounds like normal enough behavour for 8 year old boys to me.

I wouldn't worry about it in itself, but ask him not to go into detail of gory plot lines in front of your DD if it's upsetting her. Unless he's doing it for effect, in which case best she just ignores it, or tries to sound disinterested.

You can take 8 year olds into cinemas to see 12 certificates, and up to his mum what she watches with him really, so can't see there's much else you can do.

Just tell him that you don't want to hear about it.

You can't stop him mum's poor judgement and you can't stop him trying to wind you and DD up, but you can stop giving him the response that he wants.
