DSDs and tatoos...

hello- still fairly new here. Just need a rant for a minute, so bear with me- nothing can be done, I know.
DP ExW is a bit...odd?... to say the least. Anyhow, she has discovered piercings and tatoos. OK, if she likes it, her business.

But about 3 mon ago, DSD1 (16) turned up with tatoo on her foot- much against the wish of DP, but too late. Still, not quite so happy about that.
Now DSD2 (15) has turned up with tatoo on foot. Honestly, I think that is taking the p*. ExW did know perfectly well DP would not have agreed to that, and 15 I think really is too young!!!

NB as tatoos go, they are reasonably neutral, but nevertheless, at 15???
How can anybody think that's acceptable?

(Sits back and expects to be flamed)

Who did the tattoos?

Anushka11 · 06/05/2011 12:06

Don't know. But if parent is there giving permission, I guess it's legal.

It's not legal even with parental permission.

Anushka11 · 06/05/2011 12:38

is it not?? Nothing that can be done now, anyway, but interesting to know. Are you sure, before I stick my head out (not that I don't believe you)?
I'm actually quite cross, I don't think a 15 yo should make that decision, tbh. My 17 yo was tryig to persuade me after seeing DSD1's tatoo, but got a firm no. Now, she's happy, as she doesn't really want it anymore!

It definitely is illegal to tattoo anyone under 18 in the uk. The Tattooing of Minors Act 1969 makes it an offence to tattoo anyone underage. Parental consent makes no difference I'd be questioning who did the tattoo, as reputable tattoo artists won't tattoo underage kids (why would they risk prosecution and their career?).

Anushka11 · 06/05/2011 13:50

Hmm. Someone did it twice, so I guess the mother would have told them they are over 18? Is that an offence on the mother's part?

I think it's still an offence on the tattooist's behalf. S/he should have asked for ID.

moondog · 06/05/2011 14:18

People who tattoo others need shooting. As do the tattooed.
Filthy filthy habit.

pickyourbrain · 06/05/2011 17:31

hope youre joking moondog Each to their own i say. But after the age of 18 of course as that is the legal limit.

Of course you have the right to be annoyed Anushka11 You have come to care for the child and when things like this happen you are reminded that you have no control over what happens to her darling little body and it's all in the hands of her real parents. great.

It's shit, rant away any time you like.

Fraid you're right though, nothing you can do.

If it helps when i was 15 i got a tattoo and my dad came with me and gave consent... him and mum were still together then and she completely freaked!!!

Atwaroverscrabble · 06/05/2011 18:32

I think you need to find out where they were done as if they don't care about the age perhaps the hygiene is questionable too.... I have 4 btw, all since I turned 30! Grin
