Do you buy your DP's ex a Christmas present?

If so, what? Relations are much easier with DP's ex-wife these days and she sent an xmas present over for our DD last year.

So I thought a token gift, one that can't be misinterpreted in any way like wine or a book.

What do you do?

I don't but perhaps for the children if she has any other than your sdc's....

FreudianFoxSquishedByAPouffe · 05/12/2010 18:50

We never have, but last year we felt a bit guilty over how much she had given our DCs (the DSDs chose but she obviously paid) so in the sales DH got the DSDs to pick out some nice bath stuff for her as a thank you.

reddaisy · 05/12/2010 18:57

It's a minefield isn't it? She doesn't have any children other than my DSD and obviously we will be getting for her anyway. I could just have a generic gift wrapped for her in case she gets us something.

A thank you gift sounds like it could work.

I always give my Ex a present from my subsequent DCs (i.e not the ones we had together), and he always gives the subsequent DCs a very generous present back. Could you make it a present from your DD if that sits more comfortably?

dietcokesholidaysarecoming · 05/12/2010 19:03

We buy my ex a present from his son, we don't buy DP ex a present from her children. She has a new partner so he buys it.

However my ex is single therefore no one else who could buy for him.

However that reasoning doesn't work cos he still buys for me( and I have a new DP

reddaisy · 05/12/2010 19:20

I could do that hassledge. Hmm. Any ideas on what kind of gift?

I've never bought Ex a present, but we do always get something for her other children and when DBD was little DH got a present for ex from DBD, although we don't do that now she's a teen and earns her own money as she chooses and buys it herself.

I follow DHs lead - if he wanted to buy Ex a present I would let him get on with it, but its not something I'd instigate.

I get her a card and all the stuff that DBD1 (she lives with us) makes for xmas goes to her.

bonnymiffy · 08/12/2010 13:28

Last year was mine and DP's first christmas together (now DH) and yes, we got his ex something. We will do this year as well (but what to get??) We do get on ok, so I guess it's kind of a PR exercise. Just realised that sounds really cynical, but as I like giving presents I don't mind!

cinnamongreyhound · 09/12/2010 15:40

As dietcokesholidaysarecoming says we get one as she is single and otherwise dss wouldn't have a present to give to his mum. She insists on buying dh something although we have said several times that I get dh a present from dss so she doesn't need to. She never buys anything for ds and I can't imagine we would if she ever had dc with someone else

SparkleSoiree · 09/12/2010 23:15

We bought her a bottle of wine two christmases ago. Instead of a thank you we got a text saying "The money instead would have been better."

Shock

I buy her chocolates so she can get even more obese than she is. I always give money for a card too and DSS chooses it.

Hooliaaa · 20/05/2011 16:43

We always do - nothing too personal, it's nice for the kids to take presents back for their Mum and see that we all get on.

allnewtaketwo · 20/05/2011 21:33

cyanide anyone?

Just joking!

Libby10 · 22/05/2011 18:31

We used to and then stopped after we'd had a really, really bad time from the ex one year and never started up again. If relations were good I wouldn't have a problem with it but the thought of spending a penny on someone who gives us year-round hassle is too much for me.

GrownUpNow · 22/05/2011 18:35

I'd say... box of chocolates, LUSH treat and bottle of wine (or Baileys if you're feeling extra generous) if your were my ex's wife. Just in case she posts here... wink wink nudge nudge. Wink

I am having fun thinking of a few ideas!
