..... so I could spend some time with my son on my own, building snowmen and all that stuff.

It's my day off tomorrow and as it's our weekend to have the step kids, I daresay, DP and his ex will decide that we have to take the step kids from early tomorrow morning instead of tomorrow after school as the schools are shut and I'll be trapped indoors with a house full of kids who will sit in front of the TV all day or on the computer.

Red hen - what would happen if you explained this to your DP? That you weren't supposed to be having his kids til the evening, you were looking forward to some time alone with your son, and on this one occasion could your wishes be considered?

Or is it a non-starter?

Can't they stay in and watch telly while you go out and build snowmen? Or are they too young to be left inside alone?

How old are they? I'm sure they'd enjoy being out in the snow?

Petal, he would say he wanted to be with his kids as I do mine, why should I get my wish but not his? We had the kids all day Monday though and will have them all day next Monday if it's still snowing and the schools are shut. I'm not even going to bother. To be honest, I think I am going to not go to work today and try and go in tomorrow. Just easier.

Freudian - No, they're not too young to be left inside, they just don't like being outside and DS won't come outside if they are here.

Hey Redhen...... DON'T feel bad about wanting to spend some time with your son....just the two of you! We steps are often told that it's important to let our partners and THEIR kids do that, without us in tow!!

Tell him. Get it "out there" and tnejoy your time with you boy, is my advice.

Redhen, just to check I've got my facts straight - if DP/the ex decide you should have the kids from tomorrow morning, would DP be there to help you with them? Or would he be at work? If it's the latter, you're in a better bargaining position.

I think the sheer weight of numbers is the problem in your situation. However your DP should be a bit more considerate, and realise that four of someone elses's children is no picnic.

Urrrgh, red hen, you arent an unpaid babysitter. I appreciate you may not want to cause a ruck but in your case I would say - fine bring them her, ds and I are going out. I will look after them on the agreed times with your support - end of...

DP is barely doing any work at all because of all this weather. Last time he tried to do it and have the kids early, I did tell him that I thought it was unfair and that I wanted time with DS on our own for a change, especially as he was out working nearly all day.

Tomorrow will be different as DP will be around, but it's still no picnic having 5 kids around the place. Never get any privacy or any chance of doing anything I want apart from reading a book. When DP drives one kid around, naturally I am left with the other 4. We live in the middle of nowhere so DP does a lot of driving kids around.

Am really not happy at the moment and find myself contemplating going back to life on my own.

On the positive side, I have had a nice morning with DS out in the snow, building snowmen, playing snowballs etc.

DP has said he will come on a walk with us in a while, but seeing as he has barely spoken with DS all day, I'm nervous for the atmosphere and to be honest, am starting to wish he would just leave us alone. I feel that nothing my DS does is good enough for my DP while of course, his DSC are perfect little angels.

So it's alright for you to spend time with his kids, but not for him to spend time with yours?

Just overhearing his conversation with his kids on the phone and apparently he's picking the kids up at lunchtime tomorrow.

I wonder when he will tell me!
