Clothes for rugby in the winter

My daughter has been playing rugby for a few months but this is our first winter doing outdoor sports with her. Do you guys have recommendations on extra bits that make her less cold. It's a tough balance because she obviously keeps warmer as she moves. Less so for me freezing on the sidelines!

If anyone has tips, I'd really appreciate them!

Does she have baselayers? You want them tight to the skin so they lock the heat in. Big coat ready for if she comes off as a sub so she doesn't lose the heat she's got from running about!

I've seen a lot of people on here recommend heated gilets for parents standing on the sidelines, and i am tempted this year😅

I have a rugby uniform - thermal running leggings, thermal top, hoody and down puffa. Big socks and I have fur-lined wellies from Aigle (a super expensive lockdown purchase, have more than paid for themselves!!). And a woolly hat really helps!

You can also buy hand warmers which are fab, either reusable ones or disposable. And one of the mums has a heated gilet, like an electric blanket for your body, which I'm pretty jealous of.

Rugby clubs are always freezing. I’m an now at home trying thaw out

Base layers and a dry robe for my dd and I also wear a dry robe because I can fit a down coat underneath. Hot water bottles are handy too.

Thanks! These are great - she has base layer on legs but has rugby jersey and what id call a "running fleece" on top (not super thick). I think I may add another layer on the top then - something thermal. She's only five so a hat seems to not stay on her for the full hour - think she feels she has to allow her wild hair out ;)

I think I will finally get myself a dry robe as several other mums look significantly warmer than me! I thought my hiking layers would be enough but of course I'm moving when I hike, while the kids sports has me standing still. Heated gilet sounds like a genius idea!

You can buy heated warmers for your feet too. If your feet are warm, everything else is warm.

Definitely get her rugby gloves (open ends to the fingers, but grippy enough to still catch a ball. And yes, good thermals...and a warm hat if she isn't wearing a scrum cap.

If you are standing pitchside, the most important areas are your feet, your head, and your pulse points.

Wear thermal tights, and normal socks, then buy a pair of wellies that are bigger than your normal foot size so you can get some thick hiking socks on as well.

Cover your pulse points - neck and wrists. Don't have 'gaps' at the wrist, or waist, or neck, or ankles - make sure you have a long top that tucks into your trousers, and proper socks, not trainer socks, and a hoodie rather than a sweatshirt so your neck is covered as well as your head. Add scarf and hat for the really cold ones.

100% agree with the keeping a big coat and some tracksuit bottoms for when they come off. Most players assume they will be playing all the time and don't tend to think of this, but anyone can be subbed, injured or not.
