Would you say I am a glory hunter supporter?

I supported Chelsea through inheritance from my Dad.

I ended up supporting Family team over local.

My Dad isn’t from London or England, but loved football through him !

Me by the way, was born in Paddington (West London) and raised in Croydon (South London).

No you're not a glory hunter.

Edingril · 01/09/2024 09:58

How does any of that make you a glory hunter? It doesn't make sense

lemonyellows · 01/09/2024 10:05

No.

Arlanymor · 01/09/2024 10:09

None of that makes you a glory hunter. My sister supports Manchester United and started supporting them because she fancied Ryan Giggs many moons ago - we are from nowhere near Manchester - if she had stopped supporting them when Giggs left or when their fortunes changed then that would have made her a glory hunter, but to be fair to her she still supports them to this day.

I’m a Welsh rugby fan and have been forever… which makes me the opposite of a glory hunter or a fair weather fan due to ups and downs over time and, in particular, recent form!!

alwaysmovingforwards · 01/09/2024 10:10

I don’t think anyone that supports Chelsea is a glory hunter 😆😆

longdistanceclaraclara · 01/09/2024 10:16

Eh? Support who you want. H is a born and bred Chelsea supporter, not much gory as far as I can see.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 01/09/2024 10:20

Who cares? Anyone can support any team they like.

StTola · 01/09/2024 10:20

People have all kinds of completely arbitrary reasons for supporting clubs.

Sometimes it’s because they won the premier league when you were eight, sometimes (as with someone I used to work with) it was because her grandfather had once lived next door to Leyton Orient during WWII, even though none of the family were British or had lived much in Britain subsequently, and she’d spent most of her adult life in Belgium.

DeCaray · 01/09/2024 10:26

Half of Nigeria support Chelsea.

Came here to say this 🤣

Haveanaiceday · 01/09/2024 10:26

I'm not a massive sports expert but to me a glory hunter would be if you weren't loyal to your team but kept switching round based on who is doing well.

LlynTegid · 01/09/2024 10:27

I would not. Though I think you may have a lot of disappointment this season.

AreYouShittingMe · 01/09/2024 10:27

Many people support the team they do due to family.
A 'glory seeking' support is one who has no club loyalty at all and regularly changes who they support based on how well the team is doing that season.
I don't understand glory hunting supporting myself. As a supporter of a team who hasn't really won much, when we do manage to achieve something (like getting to an FA cup final) it actually means something really special. Or in our case, it's usually managing to avoid relegation that's the 'success' 😆.

I'm from London and support Liverpool! Mainly because my dad was a glory hunter in the 80s and I spent my childhood watching Liverpool so it stuck! Yes ideally we should all support our local clubs - mine should be Chelsea, Fulham or QPR, but many support a team because something about that club made them love football, despite what town it is.

I support my team (Spurs) as my Dad supports them, but similar to you, my local teams are QPR and Brentford. Spurs drive me to distraction, but I can’t imagine supporting anyone else now.

My side is Spirs and QPR neither are that easy to support
DH is Liverpool because when he was 5 a family friend gave him a Liverpool shirt (his Dad had no interest) and that was it! He should have been Chelsea/Fulham based on where he lived and we live in a huge Chelsea area

When I was a child, I said I supported Arsenal because it gave me an excuse to say "arse", which was one of the rudest words I knew at the time. (I had a very sheltered upbringing.)

I didn't stick with it once I grew out of the rude words = funny phase.

If you support the team your father supported, even if he originally had no logical connection to that team, and you stick with that team, you're definitely not a glory hunter.

😂😂😂 haha I love your initial reasoning for supporting them. Do you wish you’d stuck with supporting them now?

gaininginsight · 02/09/2024 18:18

@GoldOnyx my son is a Spurs fan and has the same struggles as he knows there is little glory in it! 😆 He only supported them because he loves Harry Kane but has kept true despite him going, bless him. He has just about forgiven me for 2019!

No, the season tickets would be far too expensive! I support my home town club. Not quite as successful but more authentic.

Aw your poor DS! I love Harry Kane too and was equally gutted when he left 😭 ah my Dad was so happy when they got to that final! Still, the best team won 🥰

didistutter56 · 02/09/2024 19:02

Nope? I’m an Arsenal fan and I’m from Lancashire! Some of my family supported them and I got it from them.

gaininginsight · 02/09/2024 19:45

@GoldOnyx aw, well I have my fingers crossed Spurs get a trophy soon ❤️

GasPanic · 01/10/2024 13:18

I support Man City. I came there from Chelsea before they went off the boil. And before that Man United and the decade of dominance.

Some people might call me a glory hunter but I'm just a fan who wants to win. Like players that transfer between clubs fans can too.

I get moaned at a lot, but I'm a winner and need to support a winning club. I don't hold with this stick with one club who never wins anything mentality. If my window cleaner was rubbish I'd get rid of them, so why not football clubs too ?
