Buying tickets for Six Nations

Mauket · 01/01/2024 20:54

My DH follows rugby quite religiously but has never seen a match live. For his birthday, I wanted to get him couple of tickets to one of the Six Nations matches. On the website it says only Hospitality tickets are available at this point (for England vs Wales).

Does anyone know when the tickets are released? Do you need to be a member or can anyone buy them?

Do you belong to/follow a local rugby team? They usually have an allocation of tickets.

Mauket · 01/01/2024 21:05

No I don’t. I’m completely new to this myself.

I haven't bothered with tickets for 2024 as I'm pregnant, but the chances are you've missed the boat.

Very popular matches (Wales v England for example) don't tend to go on general sale at all. The tickets are offered to shareholders, debenture holders, then local rugby club members. Usually aren't any left after that other than hospitality. You also need to sign up to the relevant union to buy tickets through them, so as a Wales fan I can only buy Wales home games through WRU at the Principality. If I wanted Scotland v Wales at Murray field I'd need to sign up to the Scottish rugby union site to do so.

Every year I've gone I've had to purchase tickets as soon as they come out, some years it's November, some it's been early December but I can't remember a single year I've waited until Jan, as they sell out quite quickly, if they even go on general sale at all. The exception might be an Italy away game, which for 2024 are in Dublin and Lille so probably too far to travel I assume? England have only got two home games they're the most popular (Wales and Ireland), I doubt they've gone on general sale but haven't checked this year.

Congratulations on your pregnancy!

That is really helpful to know. He’ll be interested in the Welsh matches as well. Sounds like it is too late for now but can get myself sorted for next year. Thanks

I got tickets for the Italy match last year but that's the game that is the least attended! I bought them in January. You could go to Italy v England in Rome and make a weekend of it - we did that 6 years ago and it was great.

Mauket · 12/01/2024 10:44

Did you have to become a member or did you buy it on general sale?

If tickets go on general sale you can buy as a member of the public, but you'll need to create a free account with the relevant body. So if it's a game at the principality you need to sign up to the WRU ticketing site, same with whatever England fans use for Twickers matches.

So thoughtful of you. Could you do a club match in the interim?

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 12/01/2024 13:35

You could contact your local grassroots team and see if they have any tickets left in their allocation. Most tickets go through rugby clubs

Another vote for going to Rome. We’re going to the Italy v Scotland match in March. I’ve booked the hotel and flights through BA holidays and the tickets through sport.ticketone.it The whole package is roughly the same as when we went to see England v Scotland at twickenham in 2019 and we have five nights in Rome.

candlelog · 12/01/2024 14:35

I bought tickets for England v Ireland on stub hub.

LenaLamont · 12/01/2024 14:45

There are always tickets available for matches with Italy because as a team they are pretty useless. Lovely friendly fans, though.

I've seen several matches and the Italy matches were the only ones still available in January/February.

Defiantlynot41 · 12/01/2024 15:06

We have been with England Rugby Travel and Gullivers to various 6 Nations matches. Expensive but a fun weekend away (Edinburgh, Cardiff, Dublin) and want to go to Rome next year.

Worth signing up for their updates/mailing list

Tickets for Wales v Italy are on sale through the WRU. Cardiff on a match day is great but the atmosphere in the stadium is not all that sometimes. Away trip to Rome is brilliant as others have said.

Or what about a women's game? If he's an England fan England v France is usually a good game.

UserM6 · 12/01/2024 15:20

You can buy the tickets to an Italy game through the Italian staduim. Much cheaper than U.K. prices.

Alternatively you could see the Premiership final at Twickenham. There’s a Marriott hotel attached to the stadium which is brilliant ( the players stay there too). You don’t know who will be in until the end but the atmospheres great and all the clubs are represented in the crowd. Also it’s at the beginning of June so if get the south stand you can get a tan!

hellonewtimesahead · 12/01/2024 15:21

You might have some luck if you look for thickets for some of the bigger club matches. Find out which club he likes and start there.

pipkin100 · 07/02/2024 10:46

Did you get sorted for tickets ?

Dearover · 07/02/2024 10:54

Buy tickets for a Prem match instead. Genuine fans, exciting games and less idiots going to the bar/toilets dressed in stag party wear and starting Mexican waves.
