Hi all,
I really want to learn to swim.
I'm overweight and have minor cerebral palsy that makes my legs quite "tight" - I walk on my toes with my legs slightly inwards, so I can't really put my heels down and am not very flexible at all other than that I don't have any issues apart from bad coordination and walking up hills being tedious. I'm not is the UK and the provision for adults with minor CP here is basically inexistent - as I don't have any day to day issues I've just been left to deal with it.
I went swimming today for the first time in years and although I enjoyed it I have 0 technique and can't do much more than doggy paddle or be on my back and just kick with my legs. I can't seem to really do arms and legs at the same time.
I'm not scared of water and I'm not scared of drowning in the pool - so I suppose thats a good start. I managed 24 50m lengths today so 1200 meters. I love the feel of being in the water but I really want some simple tips so I look less like a struggling puppy. I'm never going to be an amazing graceful fast swimmer but I'd like to be more "streamlined".
I've looked online but can only find tips for absolute beginner adults. I did try a class a few years ago but only went once because even though I explained to the lady I had CP issues she didn't get it and just kept on shouting at me to put my heels down and out in crawl and it made me feel totally shit. So I'd prefer just some simple tips and exercises I can do in or out of the water to help me get a rhythm.
Thank you
