Our DD (11) is fit and healthy, her main sport is swimming, as a family we're outdoorsy (mountaineering, mountain biking, wild swimming), but she's always had a funny run - leaning forward, elbows very high.
It's actually very endearing. But I think it's holding her back from getting into the ball/team sports which her friends are now interested in. I wondered if anyone has general experience of changing gait/posture/centre of gravity in running.
The particular thing I noticed over the summer was how she walks/runs downhill. We've started walking some biggish peaks and doing bigger hikes as a family and while she had plenty of stamina for the ascents, she got really worn out coming down - her little brother left her in the dust. He skipped down, bouncing over the terrain, while she laboured over each step, her knees seeming to lock backwards rather than flexing to take her weight.
In some ways it's not a problem because she's strong, has plenty of stamina and gets loads out of swimming. Also I don't want to make her feel self-conscious about it. But I see her dropping out of casual football kickarounds and I imagine that with a little adjustment she could get right in there.
So any ideas or shared experience welcome!
