When did your kids stop swimming lessons?
What stage or age were they?

Debating stopping here as they can mostly swim, lessons are super expensive and they don't really enjoy them

Somewhere in the middle primary years, when they could swim 800m in at least two different strokes and had done whatever the first level of personal survival skills is called these days (the one where you have to swim a distance underwater, get a brick from the bottom of the pool, tread water, and swim a couple of lengths in pyjamas)

Mine are still doing them. Eldest is almost 10 and has been asking about giving up. But, as she is hoping to do a fair bit of sailing, I have said that she needs to get high up enough in the levels so that she can do the junior life guarding course before she can stop - purely from a practical/safety point of view with her sailing.

The same rule will probably apply for her younger sister - whether she sails or not, mainly because it's likely she'll be spending enough time around the water anyway that I'd like her to have the skills.

So probably another 2 years for older DD.

Mine will have to at least complete all the stages. They are both competent but there is a difference between being competent and a strong swimmer. Lessons are a pain and I hate taking them, but it is their most important extra curricular activity in my opinion.

Mine had to get Bronze medallion first - about 13/14.
