Mouth guards for small mouths

DD needs a mouth guard for hockey but she has a very narrow jaw line and we are finding the ones you heat up then fit are not working for her.
They go back so far. They are making her gag.
Has anyone else had this problem?
She's only 9 and so still growing and gaining/losing teeth so I'm loathe to pay lots of money for a custom made one.
Any ideas?

Dentists will do them free of charge for children.

Mouth guards aren't available on the NHS. Even for children. I'd be surprised if your dentist paid for your DC to have one.

My kids get them every six months or so via the NHS dentist and I have never paid for them. I have even been told that if they have a tooth come out to come back for another one.

Failing that, my Ds has needed gumsheilds since age 8. We've always got them from his gym (martial arts) for about 4.

KickSport do them for young children too, similar price, I don't think they charge p&p either.

Which sport /activity does she do?

My friend got ones from sports direct. The kind you hear to fit but found instructions on the manufacturers website on how to trim them as she had the same problem they went back too far in her ds mouth. He was only 5 at te time and small and she managed to get a good fit in the end.
